His skating was more than fine until this season. His speed is noticeably down and so is his shot velocity. This suggests nagging injury(s) and/or poor off season training.

Huberdeau had a much shittier first two seasons with the Flames than Petey has had the last two seasons. I could card less about your biased views on this. Writing Petey off now is foolish

His skating has never been fine for an elite player. He has never had a great first step, and he has never been a guy who could move laterally quickly or maintain any kind of decent speed through a turn. He has always been easily pushed off the puck and weak on his edges.
We aren’t talking about a middle-6 offensive forward here, we are talking about a guy being paid to be the play driving 1C…..therefore you compare him to other guys in the same role and/or pay grade.

Myers is not likely to play in Saturday’s game against the Anaheim Ducks after sustaining an injury on Wednesday against the Seattle Kraken.
Injuries are starting to pile up - good thing we have a long off-season to recuperate.

Time to get the prospects significant ice time anyway.

As long as it's nothing long-term term it's probably a good thing as it finally opens a spot to get Mancini back in there. His sitting around for weeks, not playing, made no sense at all.

The previous two seasons he put up 191 points. Yes he got pushed around too much for all of our liking. The Sedins did until they were 25/26. His speed was fine before this season. His edges and balance need work. He needs to gain ten pounds of muscle.

I wonder how much cap space we will have playing center today? Perhaps 5mil total?

It was looking pretty sad for a while there, but hey, we have that 3-goal comeback in the last minute to soothe us all summer now

I find Buffalo being eliminated before we were to be very soothing indeed...

“This team named me captain, and I feel obligated to be a successful team here,” Hughes told Sportsnet. “That weighs heavily on me; I want to do something here.
“Like, they made me captain. Are you going to do what you said you would do? Are you going to help the situation and make this a successful organization? Obviously, one guy can't do that. But I definitely feel obligated, where that weighs heavy on my mind that they entrusted me with that. This year has been hard, and I want to find a way to put us in a situation where we can be really successful and ultimately win (a Stanley Cup). I appreciate the fans and the fact that there's never been a Cup in Vancouver. I definitely think about that quite a bit, as well.”
Sounds like a guy who wants to stay. It will be a long year of speculation and rumours and the media will stir up all the shit they can. July 2026 can't get here fast enough. But it sounds like his heart is here. Its up to Allvin now to fix this team.

I read the same article by Iain MacIntyre. Some other nuggets there was well. He can't say enough good things about the coaching staff, and noted how their coaching and structure are key to being successful. Not that I expect negotiations between Tocchet and management to be that contentious, but I wager management now knows - if he didn't let them know before this interview - where their team captain sits on that situation. Tocchet and staff staying would be a significant reason for Quinn to stay.
I also took note of him mentioning some players preparing better in the offseason and playing better next season - perhaps an indirect comment on Petey (and likely a couple of others) this year. That, and a couple of offseason acquisitions, and it seems Hughes has genuine optimism for next year.
The kid seems earnest, responsible and thoughtful. Well-spoken, at least, but I would say he means what he says there. If management makes those couple of moves, and the team gets back in the playoffs next year, I don't see too much risk of Quinn bolting. Management holds up their end, he'll hold up his.
