Oh yeah. I would much rather Douglas dropping the mitts than Buium, Boeser or even Sasson for all kinds of reasons. The kids are going to need a Douglas or two the next couple of years. Hopefully D-Petey can develop some deterrence skills because he has the build and temperament for it.
You don't need a Tom Wilson necessarily when you see what Josh Anderson is doing to the Lightning in these playoffs. Those Laughton-, Hathaway- or even Bennett-types are gold this time of year. Not because they're goons but they can excel when the games get rough.
Samson’s has mitts?
My point. He may stick his nose in for the sake of optics, but he's not dissuading anyone.
But the rest of the team plays braver when they think there is someone who will stick their nose in even if he doesn’t dissuade.
Lots of players played tougher and stuck up for their teammates after Douglas was acquired.
It doesn’t have to be Douglas, but he’ll be cheap, and he seems to be well liked.
A goon that can play a little is a needed commodity on the Canucks, especially for the rookies going through a rebuild.

We got 6 players in a top 50 list (Tocc doesn't count). Hey, how about that?!
Honourables to the aforementioned Rypper, One Punch Fraser, Stanley, and a bunch of others I'm sure we can add.
Of all the things this franchise has lacked, goons weren't one of them.

Ryp....5'11" 190
Hey...how about Mike Keane 5'10" 185 or Todd Gill 6' 180.
Or Stan Jonathan 5'8" 175.
Surprised no one brought those guys up.
Another former Canuck who was an undersized fighter was Scott Walker. His fight against Mike Keane is one of the all time great fights.

Don't think I appreciated this era of the sport as much as I should have. I think maybe cuz it got to a point where it was too stagy and more often wot, main reason it got phased out. But watching these old clips make me miss the way it used to be.
Getting a kick outta the old tilts in particular from ex-Nucks against the champ Probert.
Coxe multiple rounds (some of the best heavyweight tilts you'll see)
Fraser multiple rounds (man that guy was cool, maybe most underappreciated Nuck of all time)
Stanley (good scrap before getting caved in in the end)

Hmm, maybe should forward this to new management.
Can pump some ‘enhanced’ air into the room, move Petey’s stall next to the vent.

Yes, there were too many of the staged fights. That disrupted the flow of a game.

Fergie, Eddie Shack, Ted Harris and Orland Kurtenbach all on the ice at the same time.

Yup. Little Lead Hands. He could fight, but not score with us. Blossomed into a good top 6 guy in Nashville with Cliff Ronning.

Nice clip - but for the amount of scrums, there were relatively few punches thrown!
LOVE the white boards and ice - the way it should be.
Good choice of making Kurtenbach our first captain. Start the franchise off right.

Our last hope for something positive with Canucks and Kopitar in the same breath is that his departure helps influence the need for a Petey acquisition.

Crazy to think that if Luc were still here, he probably would have bounced around the league and retired years ago... and now just riding his motorcycles.
...and to think a 38yo from Slovenia didn't do much worse in his final year than the 27yo guy who we hope will be their replacement.
