Not for more than four years imho. Myers is ok but he isn’t quick in a fast man’s game. If they are bound and determined to sign this player this could be Eriksson ugly at seven years
Winnipeg fans are saying Myers is not the player he once was.

Why? Edler is exactly 4 years older than Myers? A 4 year contract would take him to Edlers age now. And your OK giving the injury prone 33 Edler 2 years instead of giving a 29 year old Myers 4

BTW Myers is not a bad skater. Where you getting this from? The land of pissed drunk?

Difficult to know what to do. The stats are similar but even that sometimes doesn't give much because in many cases a defense man's stats are indicative of the team in front of him.
Mmm, Van and Buf. Ya, similar.
I know both will get a raise but neither should, not really.
I hate it when we have to overpay older players.
Offer hometown Eddy 6mil for 2 ys.
Offer Myers 5.8 for 4 yrs.
Neither will be accepted but at least due diligence is done! Woo cares?

Different class of contract, I’m afraid. I imagine the sticking point with Edler is the term, not money. Myers will be $2-$3M more per season and 3-4 seasons longer.

This is what makes me nervous about Myers. His agent will price him like a true number one, but I think the consensus is he’s no better than a second-pairing guy.

There's been a big debate among them as to whether he's even a second-pairing guy any longer. :wow:

I was shocked to see that, he was a force not that long ago.

Mind you, they have Big Buff and Trouba also as right-side dmen.

And I guess some folks might be just 'kicking him on the way out the door'.

The general consensus seems to be he's been struggling cuz he's been overused in defensive situations

... that he's more of an offensive defenseman.

That was my take from reading a Jets messageboard, for what it's worth.

Is it a case of better the devil you know?

With Edler we know what we get. With Myers we aren’t sure at this point. He’s attractive because he is a rightie but I don’t think he comes cheap or under a 5-6 year term. Add in trade protection.....

The Canucks would give Edler 3 years but not with a full NMC. As explained, two years he can have his NMC. But three years means only the first year can have a NMC, the other two need modified trade protection. The Canucks have told him they don’t want to be in a position to have to protect him. From his perspective it’s about trust. Two years in a row he has been asked at the TDD if he would consider waiving. Last year it was a feeling out by Benning. This year it was an ask. A modified NTC and he knows there is a strong chance he could be traded.

I suppose they could go:

Year 1: NMC
Year 2: modified NMC
Year 3: NMC

That would allow the Canucks to expose him in the expansion draft. But I’m not sure Edler wants to put his fate in the hands of the draft.

What is his real value in cap dollars? He plays like a 5 mill dman. If he wants 7 then the answer is obvious...6 and under is worth considering maybe.

Wouldnt it be wise to just pass on an expensive maybe and continue to develop kids until they form a top nucleus? Then go shopping for the icing on the cake

Hard to say, I don't watch him much.

The highest anyone there said he's worth was $6M

... the lowest was $1.5 - $2M. :wow:

(that was from a couple of major stat geeks though)

I know that the HF trades board will laugh hard at any team that gives him 6 x $6M.

(Myers is one of the whipping boys there)

But I'm sure he's get at least that.

UFAs get overpaid right, but that doesn't mean it's always a bad thing.

Sometimes you need that free asset to fill a hole amirite?

This is how I'm thinking... unless it's Erik Karlsson.

Hey Doc we could do both if we could move Louie's contract and then trade Tanev. We could still sign Edler too in that scenario.

That's what I gather, Myers isn't very good defensively, makes some stupid defensive plays and takes untimely penalties, but yeah he's a mammoth dman who can score 30ish pts per season and for that some team - hopefully not us - will pay him $6.5-7M per lol -way too much, that type of money is generally reserved for top pairing dmen and smart teams draft their dmen so they keep them cost controlled. I'd actually prefer the other Myers, Philippe.

The final four teams in the Cup finals don't overpay their dmen.

Chara was $6.9M (this season $4M)
Krug 5.25m

Blues:
Pietrangelo $6.5M
Parayko $5.5M
JBo $5.4M

Sharks:
Burns $8M (highest paid player AAV in final four Cup)
Vlasic $7M
Karlsson $6.5M

Canes:
Hamilton $5.75M
Slavin $5.3M
Faulk $4.8M

Karlsson should only command $8M-$9M really, I'd take him at $9M per, but not $11M per. #EveryMillCounts in the cap era.

Also why I think I'd rather trade for early to mid 20's yrs of age dman - have a more cost controlled dman for the long run, or better yet get more picks to draft one, but these guys take a long time to develop, much longer than forwards to reach prime.

I'd re-sign Edler at around $5.3m x 3 years to help transition in Q and OJ

Some teams will offer him 7 x $11M, I hope Blob's Canucks are one of them.

That's Doughty money, it is what Karlsson is going to get.

In fact I'd offer to front-load the hell out of dat dere.

You're not going to land a top UFA unless you "overpay".

And then of course the cap will rise over those 7 years.

I foresee a big jump in 2022 after expansion + new TV deal.

Sign Karlsson, trade Tanev, pitter patter...

Him not having a stellar post season can only help our chances. SJ may opt out and cut bait in which case Van has as good a chance at him as any i suspect. Every team doesnt necessarily have 11 mill in cap space available like we do.

I am all aboard the karlsson train. Fuck it we can fit him in and hes unreal. Pleeeease jimmy....can we have more

I hear you, but if you're going to spend $11M per on one dman, then you'd have to let Edler go imo as he won't want just a 1-2 yr contract he'll likely want 4 years, and then ya gotta keep the defense light on the payroll with youth and career vets on the cheap, as Hughes in two years will need a sizable raise + maybe one of Stecher or Hutton, also who knows how quick Juolevi will develop in the NHL, along with Woo (never know, but got to prepare for it just in case).

& do my eriksson/alzner swap.
