Exactly, but it ain't no envious position to be in when you have a gun pointed to your head, "save this sinking ship that Gillis scuttled, Jimbo"

Forgive my insanity but if not this year, does anyone think Eriksson could be traded to a contender at next year's TD?
Now that would be a coup....

Eriksson has to submit a 16-team trade list in 2020, he is here for 3.5 more seasons in my opinion:

So has the strategy worked? Clearly the answer is no. There were many at the time saying why bother moving draft picks for other teams' rejects when the team is going to be terrible anyways. The holes were always bigger than a Vey, Granlund, Baertschi, Pedan or Etem could fill. Furthermore, guys like that hit waivers every year. The age gap could be fixed for nothing more than taking on a contract or a conditional pick. The team would likely be bottom-5, but guess what, we're there anyways.

Anyways, I'm enjoying Dude screaming incoherently about not being the Avalanche when we're right beside them rummaging through the dumpster. Except they are the 20 year old punk who's only homeless because mom and dad have rules at home, while we are the 53-year old greybeard who gave up on life 20 years ago and now just hopes his next dose of fentanyl finally does the trick. They share the same alley, but the kid might be able to turn it around.

Trying to stop the GIllis Scuttled TItanic from sinking to the depths of the NHL standings is an easy task? An aging past their prime core with big NTC contracts, a big black void in middle aged players and a complete shite prospect pool thanks to Gillis amazing drafting skills. A very easy and desperate situation to fix over night alrighty.

The Colorado rebuild, almost 10 years in the making. Problem is, the 20 year old superstar punks are veterans now, one of them apparently generational and in his 4th season, why in last place aaaaaahhhhgain, if they are such good young players to build around? A rebuild that is a decade in the making. If you take into account where both teams are in ther phases, it's no surprise where we are, but why are the Avalanche back in last place when they drafted Landeskog 2nd overall a month after we went to the Stanley Cup? Apparently going full tank is quicker than retooling on the fly?

Granlund and Baertschi are perfect the rebuild, they are only getting better as time goes on and will be entering prime years within the next couple of years right when Bo should be top tier.

Add Boeser/Virtanen + 2017 pick to that mix,
and the young defense become a cohesive unit.

Probably within 6 months JB hopefully pulls off a dman for forward help, team really needs a energetic young sniper to get ignite the offense.

LW side needs help & need a henrik sedin replacement asap.

Maybe we can trade it for a fading asset about to hit waivers... :mex:
With Columbus currently 6th in the league, this might be the year they decide to move that pick. It would be 55th overall.
Of course when I get excited for the 2018 draft, CBJ goes on 2016 tear lol.

Skyo, Granlund and Bearchia are the next step in placeholders.

I would think, looking into the future drafts, that wise NHL teams would be taking a look-see at some of the highly talented young 16 and maybe 17 year olds that are filling gaps on CHL teams right now, (getting a shot), because of the WJ tournament. :hmmm:

So the bottom feeders trade baits.

Avs - Iginla ($5.33M aav, $5m salary)
Canucks - Burrows ($4.5M aav, $3M salary)
Yotes - Hanzal ($3.1M aav, $3.5M salary)

Burrows cheapest salary wise and would be easier to acquire asset wise compared to iggy or hanzal.
Nov20,2016

...if the Canucks are out of contention at the NHL trade deadline.

And that’s where it could get interesting.

Burrows would command considerable interest from Stanley Cup contenders as a rental in return for a draft pick. He has a history of scoring big post-season goals and is fiercely loyal, competitive and combative.

It’s difficult to imagine contenders like the New York Rangers and Montreal Canadiens wouldn’t have trade-deadline interest in Burrows. He has scored 19 goals in 70 playoff games. He could be reunited with Alain Vigneault for another Cup quest and playing for his hometown Canadiens would certainly cap an amazing beating-the-odds career. Run all that by Burrows and he sees where you’re coming from.

“It’s a possibility for sure,” said Burrows, who has a no-trade contract clause. “I haven’t really put that much thought into it. My first goal was to play in the NHL, my second was to stay as long as I could (853 career regular season and playoff games) and the third was to win a Stanley Cup. The third has been harder than I wanted, but it’s still there and there’s still a chance.

“I just love the moment. That’s what I play for — to be in the playoffs and win those meaningful games that people are going to remember and be part of history. Those are easy games to get up for.”

Sounds like you`re writing Baertschi off. Personally, I think he`s got a lot of skill and has shown the willingness to do the hard stuff (even if he is faltering a bit lately). Compared with Naslunds progression I would say he is on the right track.

Bearcheese does have some nice skillz, but not sure he has that kind of shot and don't think he's as talented as Nasi. I'd compare him more to Jan Hlavac type potential.

Do you see both those players in the top 9 of a contender?

Barsch is interesting guy, if his consistency picks up he could be a piece but right now these guys are serviceable with out getting us into any long term contract problems during the rebuild. However The Ericsson deal is quite awful at this point.

Seeing Marner in Toronto Drafted the year before in the 4th slot and then jumping in this year with Mathews gives me some hope that two good players will be entering the Canucks line up next year making a decent impact. We won't get a Mathews but man our young d - core is looking nice. Starting a rebuild on the back end is perfect at these guys take more time to get up to speed than a young forward.

Looks like Avs are really falling through the basement floor, not sure anyone going to catch them at this point they just losing like a rebuild team on a mission.
