Hey Doc,
Don't you just love how the Leaves are paying Phil Kessel $1.2M per year to (most likely) win back-to-back Cups in Pittsburgh? Brilliant management.
The best part is that they are going to be doing that until 2022! I wonder if they will really find that $1.2M valuable in a couple of years when it's time to give Matthews and Marner both a raise.....this after having to bump up the salary of Nylander the year before.
Absolutely brilliant.

Yep first team in NHL history to get "a UFA with no assets spent to acquire him".
The Pens are about to win the cup with the worst defense in NHL history by far. You still want to claim the way to win is by building through your D?
I don't understand, what on Earth does this have to do with UFAs?

Eventually the koolaid slurpers at the centre of the universe will figure out their braintrust is brainless.
At that point they will turn on management like rabid dogs.
Again.
Then when the new boss same as the old boss comes in, they'll put
whoever on that same pedestal
... and go back to their lapdog slurping ways.

If you're insinuating a comparison between Crosby/Malkin and Matthews/Marner, you truly are as blindingly brain dead as we believe you to be.
BTW, Andersson is no Murray and Pittsburgh's blue line - as depleted as it is now - would still rag-doll Toronto's any day of the week.

Wait.... we are talking about Toronto still, not Vancouver, right?

You are delusional. Reilly and Gardiner are EASILY #1 and 2 on that Pens blue line.

As if the Canuck fanbase as a whole ever put Jimmy on a pedestal!

Good thing the Canucks aren't paying Luongo to win cups.

It doesn't affect the Leaves cap, Matthews already triggered all his bonuses.
So you can add a little over $5M of carryover bonuses from last year to next year's Leaves cap.
(I notice capfriendly hasn't done that yet)

So even if Dermot and Nielson are "years" away, the leaves just drafted a RH franchise D at #17. Unbelievable. He was top 5 and ranked the top D at the draft before he got mono. Incredible break.
The funny thing is, 1 year ago Leaf fans said the team should "Tank" to hope to get Liljegren. They made the playoffs and still got him.
Things are great in Leaf land. Best young team in the entire NHL.
