One wonders if they bothered to ask Quinn what he thought of Kane. I can’t imagine Quinn being thrilled about having that piece of shit in the dressing room in addition to dealing with Pouty Petey.

Another nail in Quinn’s coffin here, it seems.
You don't think they talked to Quinn before pulling the trigger?

Not sure what some think goes into making a deal but the level of angst over the deal is over the top in my opinion...

A view from the Oilers side...

Waste of a 4th rounder, imo. As others have mentioned, lots of dumb penalties. Potential dressing room issues. Helping the coil with their cap?

Flip him before he unpacks.
I just think back to when Corey Perry was yelling at Kane on the bench to get his act together. If McDavid, Draisaitl and Perry can’t seem to reign in Kane who the fuck in our soft dressing room will? lol

Kane. If the question is how do you upgrade our top 6 without bleeding picks and prospects, Kane is an answer.

And if it doesn't work out, we flip him for a 4th or better.

I give this a 6.5/10.

Just realized the PoS has a modified 16-team approved trade list. One hopes there's a taker among the remaining 15 teams who has something Vancouver needs.

Otherwise, hopefully somebody kneecaps the PoS this summer so management can use his LTIR space. Bar him from Canucks facilities and told to enjoy his insurance money and shut the fuck up all the way to retirement.

I wonder if Edmonton is on that list.

I'm very far from being the board expert on the CBA, but my (admittedly vague) understanding had been that once a player waives trade restrictions to approve a trade, those trade restrictions no longer apply to his contract.

I have more confidence that some will correct me if I'm wrong.

I believe it is the option of the new team whether or not to honour a modified NTC.

Yes the acquiring team has the option but a player may not waive to go there unless they agree to do so. Doc of course will correct this if it is wrong.

For a 4th rounder, definitely worth the gamble. Best way to add without giving up defensive prospects. It’s only one year. He might do well, and if not the stealth tank for Gavin continues.

What the hell, we can use some East Van on the roster right about now.

Welcome home.

Sasson

Hughes DPetey
Pettersson Hronek

Got to hold onto three goalies until a trade is made involving one, so only one spare forward and one defensemen will be up with the team. Lots of competition to be first call up - Sasson, Blais, Bains and dark horses Kravtsov and Klimovich at forward. Same with D with Kudryavtsev, Willander, Mancini and dark horses Hirose, Woo and Beeezebois fighting for one spot. Silovs is the only waiver wire concern.
One day later it’s looking so much better, just image what a couple of months will bring.

Kane EP40 Karlsson

OConnor Blueger Sherwood
Muller

It’s all sunshine, lollipops and unicorns since Abby won the cup.

Unless Marchand and Bennett are taking team friendly deals to the tune of 50% market value, there isn't room for them both. Ekblad has to be retained as a RHD like him is not easily replaced at all. They have $19M for Ekblad, Bennett, and Marchand. All of them are $8M players.
Players tend to sign for less in Florida because they like Cups... and because they don't like paying taxes.

In Florida those 3 are more like $7M players.

Also, a few mill in cap space can easily be created by dealing other players away, you know this...

Mëds wrote: Sun Jun 22, 2025 10:08 pm Tree isn't on the hook for Tkachuk. He took the best offer available, and it was a good one. Huberdeau was coming off of a career season, Weegar was looking like a very good RHD, and a conditional 1st rounder.....for a guy who wouldn't re-sign.

He dropped the ball on Gaudreau. He shouldn't have let him delay his decision beyond the TDL.....if he knew that Johnny was leaving prior to the TDL then that's brutal asset management. Not dissimilar to Marner, however Mitch wouldn't waive his NMC for a trade and so Tree was stuck with Shanny and Dubas' mistake there.
Tkachuk is 4-5 years younger than Huberdeau/Weegar and is better value as far as bang for your buck.

(and Uberdough has always been a floater)

Tree should have done better.

He let both Gaudreau and Tkachuk delay their decisions

... which allowed Johnny to walk and Tkachuk back him into a corner by refusing to sign a long-term extension.

Yes, of course Shanny/Dubas created the Marner mess

... but I was talking about Tree's rumoured handling of Tavares there (lowballing).

Yeahno, that would be madness.

They are a "contender" (on paper) and will continue to spend to the cap. Full stop.

Have you been listening to Leaves fans who always say "So and so superstar wants to come home to Toronto!"

Fantasies.

Pretty sure McDave knows all about the mess that is TO.

Window beginning to close...

Eastvander's modified NTC stays in effect.

Good listen to. Gives a perspective on Kane from Edmonton point of view.

Here is the thing, none of us want Allvin to blow the wad on upgrading the forward group. This move upgrades the forwards without blowing the wad and buys us time before we make a panic move. Kane is not the answer. We know this. But does he give us little maneuver room so we don't get into a panic trade?

We also know 3-5 other teams were in on talks. So there is a market to move him if we have to. Kane adds that asshole factor and Think he would be perfect riding shotgun with the Alien. His speed can keep up with him. He has the shot. And he won't let teams take liberties with him. I hope anyway.

Maybe we can now keep our 1st round pick and build the forward group by committee. But time. But time. But time.
