LOL @ you doing a 180 on Drouin.
That's how bad the 2017 class is Boulders Macenzzi.

I don't think anyone feels there is an instant fix. I do believe the current team isn't good enough and there isn't enough talent in the system to be a Cup contender in 2 years or so.

I am really starting to get annoyed with management. Last year the Canucks finished 6 points ahead of the Laffs. How good would the Canucks team look going forward if we added a Matthews (or even Laine)?! Juolevi is hopefully a stud but probably not a generational talent. 6 points. That's it. It boggles the mind...

FYP.

It's distinctly possible, even likely, that the Canucks will get worse before they get better.

We could be in that 1st overall draft pick conversation for another couple seasons.

As far as trading all the vets he said he felt the mentorship value at this point in time out weighed the return some of those guys would bring which to me sums up how little of value they are.

There is no magic hockey trade waiting to be made that will instantly turn this around.

March 5, 1991
St. Louis Blues: Garth Butcher, Dan Quinn
Vancouver Canucks: Geoff Courtnall, Robert Dirk, Sergio Momesso, Cliff Ronning, 1992 5th round pick (#110 Brian Loney)

I'm probably over-stating the importance of that trade, but oh how I loved all four of those guys.

What condition was the team in when Trevl and Jimmy took over? Let me remind you, the team they took over in the summer of 2014 was the 6th worst team in the league with an old core on NTC's, no prospect depth and no good middle aged players thanks to a dreadful 6 years of drafting and developing by the previous mgmt regime

I agree there isn't an instant fix. Most sane people of sound mind and body would

But then again if we do trade the whole lot we could take back a few bad expiring contracts from teams that need cap space for TDD. It's possible.
Let's not forget that TDD deals are usually all about pending UFAs.

Even more so in an Expansion Draft year... one would think.

Of the players you listed, only Miller and Burrows fall into that category.

Miller will only be traded if he wants to be traded

... and I know you recall how well that last TDD trade went for him.

If Miller doesn't want to be traded, he simply gives a 5-team trade list where he knows they won't/can't deal him.

I could be wrong, buy I get the impression Miller would rather play here for this season, then check his options.

From Benning's point of view, the market is weak for goalies right now and Marx still needs a little shelter.

Trading Miller would be difficult (impossible if Miller makes it so)

... plus, as you have stated, the plan might be to trade Marx in the summer and re-up Miller.

Who knows.

But seriously, what do you think the return would be on Miller and is it worth losing his mentoring?

Now Old Man Burrows could be a TDD candidate IF he continues his fine play until said day.

That's a big "if"...

The rest of your players could be TDD candidates in the coming years as they become pending UFAs.

Having said that, I could see Tanev being traded any time between now and, more likely, this summer.

The value of a young-ish top-pairing RHD on a great contract is through the roof right now and we have D depth.

(but that kind of trade would be more likely/do-able post-expansion-draft of course)

So I'm preaching patience... for a change... thought I'd give it a whirl.

I agree Doc. This year due to expansion the summer may make better trading days than the TDD. Or as you suggest nowish for a player like Tanev if we were to move him.

Yeah the key is pending UFA's, the leaves with all their might tried to dump allll their vets last tdd, and couldn't do it, as they really wanted Matthews (what the Canucks should do to get Patrick or Vilardi), it's mighty difficult to do thanks to the cap.

Even if you get in a position to land Timothy Liljegren - the right side QB, I imagine more than a few teams would pay a couple firsts and high end prospect for the right to draft him.

But imagine a first pairing for the Canucks of Juolevi and Liljegren? Juo the big smart level headed defensive responsible with some skill paired with that scoring machine who is compared to Doughty.

As for selling Canucks vets (at least Burrows.....maybe Miller (yes SL, I went there)), I'm hoping we get 2018 picks, as that draft is supposed to be deep, we'll probably have CBJ's 2nd next draft as well.

With Columbus currently 6th in the league, this might be the year they decide to move that pick. It would be 55th overall.

I know right. Pedan, Granlund, Vey, Sutter, Sbisa and Baertschi have been amazing additions

Well when you have to scramble in short order to try to fix a disaster created by the previous regime, the process may require some patience as it is no easy task. Kind of like trying to stop the sinking of the titanic, a ship driven head long into an iceberg by Mike Gillis.
