What, you mean it’s not all doom and gloom?
Re: Hughes Traded Thread
I think an overly negative reaction initially Reef which I suppose is to be expected all things considered.
But, yeah, I think there are a lot of possible positives and a good deal of promise here.
A number of us have been pushing for a rebuild and, while this may not fully be that, it is certainly a restructure with some potentially nice new modern pieces installed.
We have also lamented a lack of draft picks historically at this here GDHTMB oft casting them aside like yesterday's girlfriend.
We now have 2 firsts in a good draft year with a top 5 pick likely and a chance at one of the first 3 said to be great players AND an additional pick with more deals surely to come.
Youth is the final perennial worry around here.
Well we solved a good deal of that with 3 under 25 players 2 of them 21 and under.
Still the same morons running the show but I think there is a little hope for sure...

Apparently they just learned he wouldn't re-sign around American Thanksgiving. Not 18 months ago. Actually lines up with some of the best hockey Petey has played in more than a year.Mëds wrote: ↑Fri Dec 12, 2025 7:47 pm Fuck me running!
Rutherford just went on record stating that they had a good indication that Hughes was leaving a year and a half ago. 18 fucking months ago, and it was all but a sure thing this past summer.
That lines up with.....oh wait.....Pettersson signing his extension and proceeding to shit the bed.
But keep tying shit to your Petey narrative Mëds.
Maybe we can discuss how Petey caused WW3 too. Or was patient zero for Covid. What's next Pal?
Who hurt you man? A big blonde bearded Scandinavian teach you a lesson behind the bleachers in high school?
Was he 6'7" with season tickets? Was he who you wished you were? This is a safe place Pal - let us know.
Why Swedes?

Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..
Re: Hughes Traded Thread
I know I am upset because the team didn’t do what was needed to keep him around, what ever that was.
I don’t care anymore about JT Miller, I don’t care about what EP currently makes. Why? Because I can’t control any of it.
Now I don’t care when management knew about QH, what I care about is what they got in return and it’s a good return IMHO. I will continue to watch the team and hope that one day they win it all.
But I do enjoy reading the posts here and for once I’m not the one losing my shit. I guess life/death medical issues gives you a different perspective, except driving behind idiots or in front of assholes.

Re: Hughes Traded Thread
I think what Rutherford said was he had a feeling 18 months ago that Quinn may not resign. This lines up with Rutherford's big mistake/joke about who knows about Quinn, he wants to play with his brothers. Remember the press that got!
He didn't actually tell them though until about a month ago. I think the Canucks have been trying to figure out a way to keep him but he never did commit past his current contract. Then he finally tells them he wants out and says the sooner the better for him. And good on him for finally saying something. It allowed the Canucks to make the move confident it was the right way to go. It would have been worse had he waited until he was almost a FA to say oh by the way I'm out of here.
At least we all know the truth of it. Quinn was not going to re-sign so the Canucks had to try to maximize the return and end the circus that was now a problem in the dressing room. I'm glad it's done. He didn't want to be here.
One day we may know the truth of how this went so horribly wrong. How you go from 6 All Stars and being seen as a playoff team that could make some noise to being 32nd in the league. How and why did the wheels fall off?
It was interesting to hear Rutherford say they were now in a rebuilding mode. But he had said in the past, if we are trading a Quinn Hughes then we will be re-building. So all of his missteps over the past 3 years may have actually prepared us for this. I just want to know the bigger why. JT trade was a result. Hughes trade a result. But the bigger why, why did this happen?

But what do we know for sure? What was the "big" mismanagement" aspect of all of this? Was it simply giving Pettersson his huge deal? Was that the tipping point for some players? Was it the way they managed Horvat? JT? Like what exactly did they do that pissed off so many players/coaches that made them want out? And why if all of that was happening did Boeser, Garland and Demko want to stay so badly?
I don't get it.
