From now on this will be my response to everyone when I’m struggling to respond

“I really don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence and I don’t think he does either.”

Are you talking about life in general or something posted here?

Weekes says Tanev signing with Leaves at 5m but no mention of term.

Weekes usually won't post unless he has the goods.

5 mill is a chunk of change for a 34 year old dude who is oft injured.

His last deal was 4.5 no?

Surcharge for signing into the asylum?

Leaves fans figure they're Cup bound now presumably.

Also Kane back to Detroit....4 base with 2.5 bonuses.

1 year.

Decent chunk of coin for Tanev. He’s probably the Leaves’ best defender now.

Nice discount for the Panthers. Reinhart could have gotten all that money (and more?) in a 7 year deal on the market. Discounts are easier when it’s generational wealth either way….

Unsubstantiated rumours:
NJ trying to sign Marchessault
San Jose trying to sign Toffoli to reach cap floor and to entice Celebrini to leave college. Toffoli wants to stay in California and is willing to take overpayment to do it :)
Utah after Ian Cole :(

Woll signed in TO. 3 years @ 3.66M/AAV for a 25 year old goalie with 43 games of NHL experience (including playoffs) who has never played more than 32 games in any professional season (and that was in the AHL). To be fair, this is one way to get value from a signing -- betting on the the player that has never proven a thing but you hope might become a player who plays consistently as well as he looks when he's on (because its not like every mediocre goalie in the league doesn't have hot streaks -- remember Brian Boucher?).

But what other options did they have? Oh yeah, they might have traded a couple of 3ds for a similar aged league minimum goalie with a hundred games under his belt with a higher floor, similar upside, and presumable willingness to sign an extension. That was an option.

Then Chris Tanev. 6 years @ 4.5M/AAV. I thought 18M committed would get him done. Oops. I misjudged the market when you tell a player you absolutely must have him.

Think those are weird? How about Lilljegren 2 years @ 3M AAV. At least Myers' contract was during UFA years and someone would have paid him more.... Does an arbitrator give him that much? Really?

So the leaves join the Capitals as the biggest head scratchers. But at least the Capitals acquired Thompson.....
