After some thinking, yeah lets re-sign Tanev 1yr, Barrie can get overpaid somewhere.
A big no to Barrie. He stinks Stecher like
I really wouldn’t judge Barrie with his time on that joke of a team. His years in colorado are waay more representative of his play. However, Barrie is gonna come cheap now with his shitty play in Toronto. He could be a good buy low candidate.
Id rather sign Tanev. Why spend the same kind of money on a far worse defender in Barrie than resigning Tanev who wants to stay here? The Barrie over Tanev argument baffles my otherwise stable mind
I’m not saying Barrie over Tanev. I’m saying Barrie and Tanev!
Move on from stetcher, fantanberg, benn, virtanen, sutter, and Louie. Run the right side of Tanev, Myers, Barrie, left side Hughes edler joulevi, spares can be chatfield/rathbone/brisebois. With the above guys gone, the flat cap, not to mention playing on a team with budding superstars I think we’ll be able to get all of toffoli(5m), tanev(4.5m), barrie(4.5-5m), markstrom(5-6m) signed. Guys like zack, hog, lind, will all have a shot at making the team.

With the emergence of Hughes, the urgency and getting a puck carrying Dman who can quarterback the PP, is not there. It would be great to have that RHD to play that role along with Hughes but he is not as required as he was a year ago. And they'd never see the ice on the same shift. You'd still need someone to play RD along side Hughes and we've seen that Tanev is the perfect compliment. Who would Barrie play alongside of? For the money he will want I cant see us fitting him in at this time.
I like the idea of Barrie but D is not his claim to fame and we can't afford his ticket right now.
In addition we have Rafferty who deserves a shot first to see if he can provide ELC affordable right shot QB capabilities.
I see Barrie pulling a 1 year cheap offer with the Pens or something like that to try to boost his stock again, or some crazy team offers him insane money/term.
The only way he comes to Vancouver is if Barrie and his agent accept a really low AAV for a year or two, until we can clear some cap room.

Hell yeah - he will not be much more than he is making now so why move him?
To move LE we would have to add a sweetener.
Tanner Pearson may be easy to move with his points if we need to get rid of some cap.

You're going to have to pay EP over $10M/year and Hughes at least $9M/year soon... when the cap will likely still be stagnant.
What Barrie would want could be spread out over 2 or 3 less offensive but much more solid Dmen.
Hard no.

Yes. And the cost to just “move on” from Lulu and Birdbones will be pretty substantial

Yes, and that is probably getting off easy imvho.
I've been think $11 apiece for the two of them when it comes right down to it.

Agreed. Best to swallow our medicine and use them in the bottom six for another year.

I think you can get a mid round pick for Sutter at the TDD next year, so not a big deal.
If he stays healthy.

I think being a non-offer sheet RFA will keep Hughes' cap hit down substantially. Those out-of-college guys in Hughes' situation tend to sign bridge deals, and avoid the hold-out risk because they have no leverage in holding out.
If Hughes does sign a 2-3 year bridge, it'll be in the $7 mil range, but the next nut will be $11 mil, if things carry on the way they have.

What Barrie will want and what he’ll get on the open market are 2 very different things. Also ep and Hughes won’t be paid that much(unless it’s for 8yr contracts), we’re not talking about dubas and the clown show in Toronto.

Probably, but you sure as hell won’t get that if you try to move him in the off season to shed cap.

Bridging Pettersson or Hughes would be pretty stupid. 8 year 10 million dollar deals for both.

Ya, again, It's not the right direction at Barrie's age. People think he'll be way up in cost but now everything is different. Lower, that is.
Barrie isn't going to be getting 8mil or anything near it.
In re; to Hughes and Pettersson, because of the financial hardships the league, and it's owners will be looking at for, well, who knows, their
contracts will be less than the numbers that were being talked about. All new contracts will.be lower everywhere.

Hughes is eligible to re-sign now (I think), you're telling me you'd do 8x$10mil after 77 NHL games?
I mean, I'm not going to debate that he's not worth it, but shit that's a big nut after a very short window.
