I would be all for trading one of Hoglander or Podkolzin if it was attached to the Poolman contract. We would get 3.5 in cap relief, (combined contracts). That's huge in today's cap world. Even if all we got back was a late round pick.

It was a bit of wizardry on the part of the Baldies to fit Silovs and Sprong under that bar. This is with 14 forwards, 7 defensemen, Poolman on the roster, and Aman and Friedman in Abby, though I personally believe they will go with 13-8 swapping out PDG for Friedman which doesn't change the overall cap hit. Some darned impressive work by management there.

If 13 forwards, then PDG almost certainly waived in favor of Friedman to stay under cap (w/o LTIR), but only 4 players that can play center unless one of these new guys can. I just think you want another guy who can slide in and play center who is a 13 -14 forward.

You can't combine the the relief because that roster spot is getting filled with salary even if just an internal approx 850K. But 2.7 million in cap space would still be pretty desirable...that becomes a lot at the deadline (up to $10 million, depending on how much non LTIR IR call up are getting used as the season progresses).

Hoglander is the most movable and the most likely to bring back a return that's even more than a late rounder. Consider whether a 23 year old 24 goal scorer has a market if he had a salary of $3.6 million (his salary paired with Poolman) and is a pending RFA after the season is done. I think he does if a team is interested in extending that player 3 or more years when this contract is done.

Podkolzin is much less likely to be moved with a Poolman attachment because there's a non-zero chance Podkolzin is not an NHLer.

Why the Hogs Hate? He had 24 goals playing either bad minutes, or winging it with an injured EP40 and a near useless Mikheyhev. Kid deserves a chance. Anyone who blindly ignores his 24 goals does so at their own risk. Yes his defense can improve. But he is vastly outplaying his contract.

If we trade him, I can't see us getting a return that makes sense. Using him as a sweetener for poolman is a red herring, as it gains us very little, and we can already accrue cap space while keeping both.

Wait 20 or 30 games, when teams get desperate for offense, and then, if it makes sense, trade him.

Get Hogz out of the top 6.. get Garland in to it. I'd rather not see Hogz or Podz leave without getting a better opportunity

Why the CoHog love?

Was it his playoff performance?
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

Outperforming contracts are the key to long runs. Why people are wanting to be moving a 24 goal scorer for a 20 goal scorer is questionable. Hoglander is young and can develop into a top 6 winger. He has made massive strides towards this last year. Sprong is a solid bottom 6 guy for his entire career. Both have the potential to outperform their contracts, and both could carve out a space on the team. Why people want to trade Hoglander before the season starts in puzzling at best...
