BTW, if Kadri is terribly overpaid at 4.5 million, perhaps he should be at 2-2,5 million per, right? does that mean that all salaries are dropping then? Because I'm not sure if Matthews can demand 14 million per if a 35 goal scorer is worth 2 million per.
Nice logic there. Image

Doesn't matter how early they sign Matthews, it's gonna be $14M-per (if he keeps this up).
BigTuna wrote: They signed Kadri and Reilly early and obviously saved millions.
Kadri was going-on 26 when he signed this contract, this is his 4th contract!

Rielly is a young top-4 dee, but not necessarily a bargain at $5M (and he's having a poor season).

The only underpaid player on the Leaves (other than ELCs) is JVR

... and that's done in 1.3 years.

A lot can happen in the next few years, hard to say where a team will be cap-wise.

But I've already proven Leaves are majorly screwed in the here+now with ELC bonuses + LTIRs.

Horton + Kessel ($6.5M combined) are on the books til the 2020s...

It's your own logic! You're saying a guy who was UFA eligible and is on pace for 35 goals, 65 points is overpaid at 4.5 million and is worth what, 2-3 million per? And in the same post you're saying the salaries of players is going to explode! Matthews will get 14 million within 2 years. These two are connected. You're walking all over your own logic. The cap will rise huge for players, but not for a 35 goal, 65 point player. I know Kadri isn't of Matthews talent, but when the salaries of players rise drastically, it does affect all players. And Kadri certainly isn't some fringe NHL player, he' s 11th in goals in the NHL currently.

I never said how much Nazi Kadum is worth.
BigTuna wrote: And in the same post you're saying the salaries of players is going to explode!
I never said salaries of players is going to go up one red cent.

The cap doesn't need to rise one penny for Matthews to get $14M.

The maximum player salary has always been 20% of the cap.

This season that equates to $14.6M.

As an aside, why do you keep calling Nazi "a 35 goal, 65 point player"?

Horton does not count against the cap.
Horton's salary does indeed count against the cap.

It counts if they do not go to the cap limit. His entire salary can then go over the cap max.

I said player's salaries will rise. I did not say the cap will go up. (According to your logic).

And please tell me what Kadri is worth right now? I need a laugh.

Can you at least try to act like you follow the NHL? There is no way Matthews will start making 14 million in 2 years when the top cap hit is 10.5 million this year(And has been for 2 years with no rise).

So do we make a bet on what Matthews will make? The entire NHL will hate them if they give a 21 year-old kid 14 million. I guarantee McDavid will not even get that for his next contract.

I am wrong?

The NHl's highest cap hit is shared by Kane/Toews.

Here's a nice fresh article about how badly Rielly sucks:

http://www.tsn.ca/talent/rielly-and-the ... e-1.676421

Every player on that team (excluding ELCs) is overpaid... other than JVR.

But then JVR is a big weenie who plays with zero passion and doesn't backcheck.

Leaves have been trying to trade him all year and no such luck, maybe other GMs are onto him...

RoyalDude wrote:So lets recap.

- Toronto acquires Kessel from Boston, giving up Tyler Seguin, Dougie Hamilton and Jared Knight.

- Kessel sucks in Toronto, the fans hate him

- Kessel, along with Tyler Biggs, Tim Erixon and a 2nd round pick is traded to Pittsburgh for Kasperi "King Smurf" Kapanen, Nick Spaling, Scott Harrington and a 2016 1st round pick and 2016 2nd round pick.

- 2016 Pittsburgh 1st round pick traded for Andersson

- Kessel wins a Stanley Cup with the Sharks

- Nick Spaling traded along Roman Polak to San Jose for two 2nd round picks (one in 2017 and one in 2018) Spaling and Polak go to the Stanley Cup Finals with the Sharks where they lose to Kessel and the Penguins

- Polak resigns a 1 year with the leaves

- Harrington and a conditional 5th traded to Columbus for that bum Kerby Rychel

The Kessel Fallout

No Kessel
No Seguin
No Hamilton
No Knight
No Biggs
No Erixon
No Spaling
No 2nd round pick (given up for Kessel)
No 2nd round pick (Pittsburgh reaquires 2nd pick from Toronto that went to Toronto with Kessel)

Yes Andersson (leaves acquire him by trading Pittsburghs 1st round pick)
Yes Kapanen
Yes 2017 2nd round pick from San Jose (Spaling and Polak)
Yes 2018 2nd round pick from San Jose (Spaling and Polak)
Yes to Kerby Rychel (leaves trade Harrington and a conditional 5th for him)

I tell you what, I think I'd rather have one of Kessel or both of Seguin and Hamilton than the current measly fallout that the Maple Smurfs are now left with :mex: My gawd is that awful. Is Andersson and that Smurf Kapanen all that they are left with? Are you kidding me? :mex:

The Cherry on Top! - Paying Kessel $1.2 million until the end of the 2019-2020 NHL Hockey Season.
The 2009 Kessel trade? Now we're back to that?
I got news for you, with Kessel on the leaves last season there's no Matthews on the leaves this year. And Kessel had 3 straight years of PPG play with Tyler freaking Bozak as his centre. So how did he suck in Toronto?

And how is Boston doing with Seguin and Hamilton BTW? Kessel lasted longer in Toronto than either did in Boston.

Jared Knight just served me coffee at Tim Horton's.
All the Maple Smurfs have to show for the whole Kessel fiasco (Seguin, Hamilton...you name it) this is all they have to show for it, that is currently on the team...wait for it....wait for it

Andersson!

AND

wait for it....wait for it....

Paying Kessel $1.2 million for 3 more seasons after this!

I just can't get over how much the Smurfs will be paying Horton and Kessel over the next 3 seasons past this.
