BTW, if Kadri is terribly overpaid at 4.5 million, perhaps he should be at 2-2,5 million per, right? does that mean that all salaries are dropping then? Because I'm not sure if Matthews can demand 14 million per if a 35 goal scorer is worth 2 million per.
Doesn't matter how early they sign Matthews, it's gonna be $14M-per (if he keeps this up).BigTuna wrote: All the leaves have to do is sign Matthews/Marner early. Chicago didn't do that. They wait until they won 2 cups already.
Kadri was going-on 26 when he signed this contract, this is his 4th contract!BigTuna wrote: They signed Kadri and Reilly early and obviously saved millions.
Rielly is a young top-4 dee, but not necessarily a bargain at $5M (and he's having a poor season).
The only underpaid player on the Leaves (other than ELCs) is JVR
... and that's done in 1.3 years.
A lot can happen in the next few years, hard to say where a team will be cap-wise.
But I've already proven Leaves are majorly screwed in the here+now with ELC bonuses + LTIRs.
Horton + Kessel ($6.5M combined) are on the books til the 2020s...
It's your own logic! You're saying a guy who was UFA eligible and is on pace for 35 goals, 65 points is overpaid at 4.5 million and is worth what, 2-3 million per? And in the same post you're saying the salaries of players is going to explode! Matthews will get 14 million within 2 years. These two are connected. You're walking all over your own logic. The cap will rise huge for players, but not for a 35 goal, 65 point player. I know Kadri isn't of Matthews talent, but when the salaries of players rise drastically, it does affect all players. And Kadri certainly isn't some fringe NHL player, he' s 11th in goals in the NHL currently.
