Certainly would stabilize the defense core for the next 7-8 years, also would mean likely Tanev/Marky/Stecher let go for cap space.
So you think AP will be worth the $8M (or more) that he will be seeking when he's 38 years old? And if he's signing for 8 years you can almost guarantee his agent will be asking for a contract that factors in the inevitable inflation that's happened when he's halfway through his contract.
Big pass I think.
I’m curious to see what Petro gets. I think it will be more than 8 per. We could only offer a 7 year deal. So that takes him to 37. Shea Weber is 35 and still playing great hockey. I don’t see Pietrangelo aging like Brent Seabrooke. I think he’d be a great signing but this team doesn’t have the space.
Yup it will be more like $9M per to get Petro as a UFA, but yeah 7yrs would be good, taking him to 37, with his superior all-round skill it would be worth it, he's a #1 dman game changer.
It'd be like when Burke snagged Scotty Niedermayer (32yrs old iirc) for 4 years to add to the Ducks for their Cup win when they also had Pronger ffs-the dmen richness.
Or what about this Dustin Byfuglien guy? 35yrs old, is he an actual UFA? does anyone know, 3 years of the beast would be nice.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.
James O’Brien also weighed in on the key decisions facing Adams. Defenseman Rasmus Ristolainen could be their most notable trade candidate. He’s frequently come up in trade rumors for some time, leading O’Brien to wonder if Botterill sought too much for the blueliner or was his market value really that cold.
He suggests the Sabres might be better off cutting their losses with Ristolainen even at a discount rate.
And they'd probably move him out West.
Virtanen + Stecher for Risto would ya do it?
Pair him with the reliable Edler and he could thrive here. He fits the age group 25yrs old, 2 more years at $5.4M.

No. Stecher, Lind and Sutter. If they have to move Jake I’d hope they get picks and fairly high ones.

Yes he's a UFA, but I feel Buffy is done physically and mentally with hockey...

And probably the size of an offensive lineman right now. Like the thought though.
I see that Doyle is suffering from Luke Schenn-itis overvaluing Ristolainen Just because he was drafted high, ignoring that he truly stinks. Not surprised, Boozey Doylez loved the Gudbranson trade when it happened
1 year left on Sutters contract, zero need to move this contract out

I wouldn’t trade Jake for Risto. I offered up two pretty crummy pieces and a cap dump. How is that overvaluing him?
Yes I originally liked Gudbranson. Then I saw him play in Vancouver and saw that he sucked. You loved the trade until the day he was dealt. You thought he was a good player.

I did hear it on good authority last summer that Benning was close to acquiring Risto...(Faro, YT lounge lizard)
He just might get him this offseason now, Sabres looking to shake things up big time, I see a lot of movement happening with roster players.

With the cap not moving, there will be less ‘shake ups’ than you might think.

Seriously? That's not the type of player I want them to add at this point. They need to tighten things up on defense and I'd prefer it be someone who's more abrasive too.

6'4 214lb Risto had 203 hits this season, he hits with a lot of power for a pt producer.
I just think he needs to be put in the right situation to succeed, on a more well balanced team, with a strong defensive LD to cover for him.

Weeeell...he was a vancouver based engineer dude that was in on the faro hotel corporately expensed hammerfest with me that started flapping about his inside source confirming the canucks were on the cusp of trading for him. This was last summer so....

I saw that and his year to year hit numbers are high but he doesn't strike me as being as intimidating as those numbers are. I don't know, you also have to weigh what Buffalo would be asking for against his defensive deficiencies and it doesn't seem as the right fit for where they're at and what they need. He was a guy I thought they could have dealt for last year instead of signing Myers, then I thought about the asking price and if it's something like Boeser+ it's not worth it. They're defensive play really needs to be fixed before they can take the next step as a team.
