Captain MS reporting
My theory on this whole thing involves …. believing that a large group of Romulans with no incentive to lie who are all saying the same thing are telling the truth, and that the officers comments of Officer Trevor Linden are taken at face value, and that this was a relatively simple case of a captain choosing the viewpoint of one of his officers over the other. There is nothing crazy or weird about anything there.
Some versions of the events involves a massive conspiracy where a multitude of Romulans have lied for no apparent reason to frame Captain Jim Benning (as if there wasn't enough actual ammo to use) and where you need to try and find a .0001% 'maybe if you ignore this and this and think about this this way' out where Officer Linden wasn't meaning what he quite obviously meant.
Occam's Razor, a little

This is all starting to sound like it came right out of a padded "guest" room in Essendale. Obviously he hasnt been restrained yet but its only a matter of time

Bleach clean has been drinking bleach. Would this be enough? What a chump
I really like Eichel as a player but Benning would get raped in that trade. Way way too much

Captain Anal Bleaching reporting
Is it a good thing Captain Stubing of the USS Love Boat is out of the Fleet? Yes, in absolute terms. And no, in relative terms. It's not good if Captain James T Benning is still there left unchecked.
What has Captain Benning's experience meant? What is the net benefit to what he knows? Captain Stubing decided against his knowledge for this Fleets most decorated 5 star Officer. Captain Stubing was against his supplemental assignments of Officers Gagner, Roussel, Beagle etc... What have we heard about in terms of Captain Benning making a good decision only to have it be railroaded by Captain Stubing? Anything?
You know, the recent chain of command comment by Captain James T Benning had me laughing. If there is a message that is logical, and it requires the strength of a united Front to deliver it to a meddlesome General, having your direct lieutenant subvert you when delivering that message is the height of breaking that chain of command. Captain James T Benning is a complete hypocrite for saying this.
You're right though, the process is now streamlined regardless. It just cost them their top corporal to do it. I'm sure Captain James T Benning's ego didn't factor in there at all..

Captain MS reporting from the MSS Enterprise
A peculiarity I have discovered in this journey commandeering the MSS Enterprise into new frontiers where no man has been before has been the repeated claims from the Crew of Captain James T Benning that assigning officers like Lt. Jay Beagle is viewed as providing the needed and respected mentoring for an inexperienced crew as they voyaged 20,000 leagues Beneath the Sea for an extended period of time in search of Captain Nemo, unlike the failed mission by the USS Edmonton who totally had a lack of experienced leaders while themselves being 20,000 leagues Beneath the Sea for an extended period of time while assigning experienced officers like Lt. Andrew Ference and Lt. Eric Belanger to oversee and mentor a young crew

I think the only thing that would break the hate cult is if Canucks were to win the Cup.
If that scenario unfolds, I envision a Peoples Temple end game scenario for them...
But hey, let's say they get their way and Lord Benning gets axed.
Okay, now what?
A return to a healthy 'cheer for your team' mentality?
Be free once again to hope/pray/cheer for your team win a Cup?
(like normal fans?)
Nope, not for at least a dozen years or so.
Why?
Because the hockey universe will be giving Jimmy credit.
(for building the core of that championship team through stellar drafting)
Oh, they'd fight that narrative with their insane storyline:
"NO, the underling that Benning abused and overruled time and time again gets all the credit!"
But at that point, instead of fighting against the few actual Canuck fans (the sane ones) left at that site
... they'd be taking on the entire hockey world.
F O R E V E R
Yeah, it's too bad they lost their minds in the pain of a rebuild and crazily tried to cover that up by blaming the rebuilder.
And it's too bad they never had the courage and humility to seek the mental help they so desperately needed.

Solid post. This guy must do his mod job with a five gallon bucket of bleach, a mop and rubber gloves and a few hundred sets of rubber sheets.

Mr. Canucklehead is the head mod there and he's great!
But sadly he's going to need something a little stronger than bleach.
I'm thinking... napalm?

Do you cats remember when Peter10 said “Goodbye” when Benning was extended? He just posted in the management thread at HF 5 minutes ago.

Yeah Dude, dozens of them said "Goodbye, getting on the Seattle Seagulls bandwagon"...

(look at the 'likes')
Hell, Y2K said he was leaving forever THE FIRST TIME Jimmy received a contract extension.
Still there.
See, these folk are addicted to hating on Lord Benning.
Hell, if Benning ever ended up in NY, they'd prolly become Ranger "fans" just so they could keep on bashin.
Bitches be crazy yo!

It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.
Room scene: late Spring. The present. Man at his computer named MS, age unknown. Occupation: clerk. MS, a fixture of a hockey board, a rather minor component to a warm June day, a nondescript, commonplace little man whose life is a treadmill built out of sidewalks. And in just a moment, MS will have to concern himself with a man named Benning – because as of three o'clock this warm June afternoon, he'll be stalked by Mr. Benning as he is everyday.
MS begins entering data onto computer:
“Linden:
- Debates on this pick were heated.
- Judd and his guys had to argue hard for Pettersson.
- allowing the guys who have only seen the players play a few times to have authority to make picks over the scouts who have actually watched them play is dangerous.
- I felt I had to give Judd the autonomy to take the guy that he and the scouting group wanted.”
Continued
“Multiple media sources :
- there was a Brackett camp and a Pettersson camp.
- Linden stepped in to side with Brackett on Pettersson.”
Continued
“Do. The. Math. If Benning was on board with the pick, NONE of those things happens or is being reported or quoted that way. There is no plausible scenario, as you've shown with your inability to provide one when challenged multiple times to do so.”
Continued
“Yes, clearly Linden wanted drafting to be a collaborative process. And what he's saying is that Brackett was on board with that, and he's firing a shot across Benning's bow because Benning did not want to be collaborative. Like, how are you not able to read the room here in terms of the tone of Linden's comments? It is absolutely mindboggling that you're trying to portray that interview as supporting Benning or anything about Benning in any way, and are accusing others of 'twisting the context'.”
Closing
MS, age unknown. Occupation: clerk. Formerly a fixture of society, formerly a rather minor component to a warm June day. But, throughout his life, a man beloved by his people, and therefore, a most important man. Couldn't happen, you say? Probably not in most places – but it did happen in the Twilight Zone
