Practice today before the road trip had the defence set as:
Hughes-Myers
Forbort-Hronek
DPetey-Soucy
They could flip Hronek with Myers, but whatever. it looks like the best defence the Canucks have iced this season.
Friedman sent down. Juulsen and Deharnais eating popcorn. Nice!
The $2 million air thief Desharnais scratched for the kid? Nice! Tocchet is risking life and limb here, how courageous of him.
Its amazing to have a few current players overpaid. Truly a phenomenon in pro sports today. Deshanais and Heinen should eat the blame though. Not an 8 million dollar horse playing like a 5 million dollar bottom 6 centre and an 11.6 million dollar center playing 5 million dollar hockey himself. Not to mention a top 5 goalie being injured all year and playing like he is Spencer Martin.

Let's wait until Juulsen returns from injury
Hasn't the D performed much better with no, ah, Juulsen?
I would pencil in Saturday Night Vinny before I'd ever consider those two minor-leaguers.
Him and Friedman should not be allowed to ever head westward on the No. 1 Hwy ever again. They should be pulled over and tasered repeatedly if they tried.

Oh I agree of course. But willm see what the coach decides when Juulsen is healthy. All I'mm sayin'.

Yeah, I know what you were getting at. I see your winky (Smile).
I don't know if the coaches truly have boners for those two AHLers, but with a full healthy corps of NHLers (of course, a few are very mediocre NHLers), I hope they're going to be pragmatic enough to dress them instead. If D-Pete can regularly get into the lineup at the expense of say, Vinny... even better. However, I must say that Saturday Night Vinny Barbarino ain't too shabby with the HNIC spotlight shining.
I just want to see if they can make some kind of run while the entire group is healthy. Juulsen and Friedman should be the very last resort. I'd even prefer if they called up other guys from Abby over these two, but we know that's unlikely to happen.

20-12-2 will be a minimum of points acquired the last 34 games to sneak into a wildcard. Sure you might get in wih 91 points, but 94 is a pretty solid lock. Can these guys do it?? They need to peel off a 15- 17 points in a 10 game steak to take them serious. You will see the true character of the core if they wilt or if they care...we all know Quinn does.

The stage is yours. You all have a lot to gain if you want to play here or you don't. Future contracts, staying or going but just play some decent hockey for the fans that pay your way. I'm a few games from checking out on the season. Not the NHL season but on this Gomer Show in town. Just booked a big assed trip to travel to the midwest in May with a buddy and hit as many MLB stadiums as we can. Confirmed Cinncinnati, St Louis, Wrigley x 2, probably hit a White Sox game and a Royals game. We have been talking about doing it for years as we aren't getting any younger.
I hope the Canucks can return to at least be the bunch that seemed to give a fuck last season. It was fun to watch.
I cant continue to give too many shits. The players move around like gypsies. Time for the fans to.

We've been saying this for months, ad nauseam. You can see the night and day difference between last year's D group vs this season's. Add to the multitude of injuries and the offence has dried up and the forwards look amateurish.
Asides from Hughes, the zone exits are a literal Travisty again.
Fix that and the question will be, what feud?
Carl, you know I largely agree with this (though think the Czech is closer to decent in this aspect of the game than your post contemplates).
The curiosity to me is Travisty hockey began not with a set of new players, but started creeping in a little before the break last year and was fully engaged come playoff time. This is why I never had Z more than a 4-5, though I really enjoyed having him on the team. Lots of individual plays to admire -- the bone crushing hits, the occasional rush, the way he could get under the opposition's skin. But his outlets weren't good enough consistently enough to generate speed from precision.
Management has targeted this kind of player -- wingspan over skill -- and there are tradeoffs to this approach and the balance is a loss at the moment.

Yeah, I know Jeremy Hronek is very capable in this area. I didn't mean to lump him in with the others.
However, we've also seen for ourselves his relative inability to drive his own pairing. Having him with the Captain to maximize the five on the ice kind of takes away from his potential and leaving the rest of the group to have to play a lot of Travisty hockey to stay afloat.
With regards to Z... with all the things he's been saying in the media now, I don't even know what really happened? Money? Term? Respect? Family? Seems like he's saying the Canucks matched, he loved playing here, blah, blah... would he have stayed even if he got everything he wanted?
What I do know is that maybe he's not worth what he got from Boston, but those intangibles he displayed here seem worth it to me... for the fact that the culture in the room would likely be better (unless he was himself disruptive in a losing season such as this), he could alleviate some of the media interactions and most importantly, a healthy Z, Myers, Soucy would mostly keep the aforementioned AHLers out of the lineup while we wait for D-Pete and Willander to arrive.
And as Leves alluded to... "soft skills".
I feel like in most cases, deeper/better team = better precision = more speed = better consistent, quality offence.
Some of us felt a haircut at the time... maybe 10.6 instead of the current ego-driven terms and we maybe could have retained a semblance of last season's NHL D without resorting to pillaging at Value Village for leftovers... which weren't exactly cheap, btw.

That plays into my “JT vs Petey” theory.
The team chose to give the muffin a monster contract at the expense of proven warriors…..then told JT to back off and not wound the poor little fellow’s fragile psyche.
JT (after trying)…..Fuck it. I want out.

Well what did anyone actually expect? It’s Value fucking Village…..they take your unwanted and donated castoffs and then sell them for damned near the going rate.
Although I have no idea how ANYONE thought the going MARKET rate for Desharnais could have been north of $1.5M…..and yet…..

That is kind of my theory also.
Where was this kid from end of March until now? I busted my ass for this team even as the media talked shit for 5+ years. I tried to will us into the 3rd round along with a bunch of other warriors on this team. My family and I love it here and now I'm asked to waived my newly signed, below market contract? After I gave them one of the all-time franchise seasons and we got back into the playoffs? PP fuckin' G? After I consistently gave them PPG seasons, taking over the #1 center position and driving the offence on a measly $5.25M/yr?
Let me take a leave of absence to think about this latest development...

So is Wiebo the only one in denial about the fact the teams two best forwards pretty much hate each other?
He has barked at the media like Homer Simpson at a cloud but "the raisin" has just let it out.
Wiebo go snipe hunting.

The way this group has moved players up and down to/from Abbotsford this season.....who the hell knows?
