The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.
I watched this speech a couple of times. Yeah, whatever you think of Carney, he delivered a brilliant speech not only for Canadians, but for all countries who's leaders have no balls to stand up to you-know-who.
The whole world and even Americans are talking about this. Finally, someone who can see reality of multipolarity, admit his country's culpability in the old "Rules Based Order" system and has the guts to verbalize it loudly in front of the world stage against the hegemon.
Bravo. Expressed Canada's sovereignty like a real statesman should, while taking some subtle digs at the EU in particular. He just gave the 51st state some real cred from the global community today.
If it were JT, he'd probably be under the podium sucking off Bessent, Ludnick and Von Der Lying.

My take, this speech does more for Carney at home within his cabinet than anywhere else. He has been up against the Justin "because it's 2015" camp who fight reopening up Canada's resource sector and ability to get products to markets.
He just squashed them.
He can now bring the Liberal Party back to being the slightly left of centre Party it always was before Justin's left of NDP swing.
Meanwhile Trump arrives in Davos to declare war on Denmark.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.
I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.
Trump just got up on the WEF stage and had an insane 1hr rant threatening everyone and everything, mocking and threatening countries and world leaders like Carney to be careful or face consequences. He even hunted for Carney in the crowd, "Mark, are you here?".
If other states did not buy into Carney's speech about middle countries needing to join together, the Trump speech should tell them what the US regime and their elites have in store for the world. Yet, NATO chief still slathers Donald's nuts even as he tells them that NATO is nothing.
Just not ready? Better get ready. Pure insanity.

Countries just don't know what to do, they agree to something with USA and then Trump changes his mind weeks/months later and goes on a rant. It really does not matter what has occurred today and as this continues countries will just get tired and pay lip service to Trump to pacify his ego but quietly work in the background on plan B & C.
Question as I am not totally sure of how USA system work but the mid terms are coming up this year, should the democrats win either the congress or the senate or both can they stop Trump from implementing the tariffs or remove the ones he has already implemented? If so maybe other countries are waiting this to happen?

In theory, yes - but the thing is, trump could have done all of this easily while he controlled both houses. The midterms will likely shift some control to the Dems - but will it be enough? The administration is basically doing what it wants to do and getting away with whatever the courts allow.
As for other countries waiting it out - I think they've had enough. Carney's speech likely summed up how most of them feel. The States cannot be trusted anymore - doesn't matter who is in charge - every 4 years, they could elect someone else as bad or worse.
