Only 2 of them are younger than 20. And 3 of them are 23 or over. Zaitsev is already halfway to 30.

On top of that, when you ice a team that has that many rookies, you better end up with a few of them in the top-10 rookie scorers.

It's all good. It basically means that you won't have the cap space to keep this group together thanks to so much early success. Hyman, Brown, and Zaitsev, are all RFA at the end of this season.....compare their stats to the stats of some of the vets the Leaves have and you'll get an idea of how much $ those guys will be seeking. Zaitsev is outpacing Reilly, and 2 back of Gardiner.....ready to pay him more than $4M? Brown and Hyman are well ahead of Komorov, and Martin. So there's $3M each.

Off-season signings are looking more and more fun for Toronto with that albatross contract of Horton's.

Lou played hardball with Marner and won.....then he tried with Matthews and lost. Toronto will pay for it in 2 more years with Marner.

If those guys continue with that success, regardless of what the team does, you'll be tying up at least $16M right there. Chances are they ask for matching deals a la Toews and Kane. Haven't even looked at Nylander yet.....he'll be right up there with them. Imagine blowing close to 40% of your cap on 3 players!!!!

If Toronto is smart they are trading 2 of Hyman, Brown, and Zaitsev.

There is only 1 team that has managed to blow more than 35% of its cap on 3 forwards and still be successful, that's Chicago. Lou and Shanny better be as shrewd as Bowman at the draft table because your 3 blue chippers are gonna cost you close to $30M.

You don't know how to build a winning team. You need guys like Hyman and Brown-Cheap, good 2nd/3rd liners. That's how you win in a capped world. It's called depth. The leaves have tremendous depth upfront. Why would Connor Brown or Hyman be moved? They aren't expensive. And they are nice supporting guys.
Nylander is a blue chipper. He's going nowhere and has great talent.

Again the Oilers never had this situation. They've never had 3 rookies on pace for 60+ points or 2 on pace for 70+.
