The 3 true blue chippers are 19, 19 and 20. Who cares if a supporting piece like Brown is 23? How is that a bad thing? He was a 6th round pick. It's great to have him contributing this much at 23. And I love the "Halfway to 30" comment. LOL. It's called 25. He's in his prime.Mëds wrote:McDavid blows the doors off of ALL of those guys.Blob Mckenzie wrote:Mcdavid blows the doors off of any of those guysBigTuna wrote:Nope. All. By. Himself.
As for BigTurd's boasting that the Leaf's have 6 of the top 10 rookie scorers.....
1 - Mitch Marner - 45 points - 19
T2 - Patrik Laine - 43 points - 19
T2 - Auston Matthews - 43 points - 18
4 - William Nylander - 35 points - 20
5 - Matthew Tkachuk - 33 points - 19
6 - Sebastian Aho - 31 points - 19
7 - Zach Werenski - 31 points - 19
8 - Anthony Mantha - 26 points - 22
T9 - Connor Brown - 23 points - 23
T9 - Zach Hyman - 23 points - 24
T9 - Nikita Zaitsev - 23 points - 25
T9 - Devin Shore - 23 points - 22
Only 2 of them are younger than 20. And 3 of them are 23 or over. Zaitsev is already halfway to 30.
On top of that, when you ice a team that has that many rookies, you better end up with a few of them in the top-10 rookie scorers.
It's all good. It basically means that you won't have the cap space to keep this group together thanks to so much early success. Hyman, Brown, and Zaitsev, are all RFA at the end of this season.....compare their stats to the stats of some of the vets the Leaves have and you'll get an idea of how much $ those guys will be seeking. Zaitsev is outpacing Reilly, and 2 back of Gardiner.....ready to pay him more than $4M? Brown and Hyman are well ahead of Komorov, and Martin. So there's $3M each.
Off-season signings are looking more and more fun for Toronto with that albatross contract of Horton's.
Lou played hardball with Marner and won.....then he tried with Matthews and lost. Toronto will pay for it in 2 more years with Marner.
If those guys continue with that success, regardless of what the team does, you'll be tying up at least $16M right there. Chances are they ask for matching deals a la Toews and Kane. Haven't even looked at Nylander yet.....he'll be right up there with them. Imagine blowing close to 40% of your cap on 3 players!!!!
If Toronto is smart they are trading 2 of Hyman, Brown, and Zaitsev.
There is only 1 team that has managed to blow more than 35% of its cap on 3 forwards and still be successful, that's Chicago. Lou and Shanny better be as shrewd as Bowman at the draft table because your 3 blue chippers are gonna cost you close to $30M.BigTuna wrote:The 3 true blue chippers are 19, 19 and 20. He's in his prime and yet you are holding him up as a rookie to bolster your point about the Leaves having 6 of the top 10 rookie scoring leaders. So I'm shooting that down and saying, yay, congrats, 3 of those rookie leaders are actually players in their prime years, so they are being stacked up against 19 and 20 year old kids. And I love the "Halfway to 30" comment. LOL. It's called 25. He's in his prime.
The top 3 are all 19 and 20. Same as everyone else. They are getting a majority of the rookie points for the leaves.Mëds wrote:BigTuna wrote:There is only 1 team that has managed to blow more than 35% of its cap on 3 forwards and still be successful, that's Chicago. You're kinda stupid aren't you.....
His dad had 33 Points in his rookie season, went on to score 679 Points in 920 NHL games spread over 14 seasons.BigTuna wrote:1 - Mitch Marner - 45 points

You don't know how to build a winning team. You need guys like Hyman and Brown-Cheap, good 2nd/3rd liners. That's how you win in a capped world. It's called depth. The leaves have tremendous depth upfront. Why would Connor Brown or Hyman be moved? They aren't expensive. And they are nice supporting guys.RoyalDude wrote:Tuna thinks a young hot shot forward group for the leaves will do what no young hot shot forward group for the Oilers team could do with a weak razor thin defence and teribble goaltending - Succeed in the playoffs let alone making them
Could you please remove old men Brown, Zaitsev and Hyman from your gloat list. LOL. Nobody is enamoured by them but you. We only tip our hat to Matthews and Marner. As for Nylander he's getting the Hodgson treatment, all his points are on the PP, he gets no defense zone starts cas as we all know he's a major liability in that half of the ice.
At a 150 lbs Marner is one hit from annihilation
I guarantee you that 3 years from now, Matthews and Marner will be the only leaves remaining on Tunas Gloat List. They are the only true blue talented keepers amongst the pile of expendables he keeps waxing on about, every team has expendables like that. Get over yourself
Do you realize how stupid you sound gloating about players like Brown, Hyman and Zaitsev etc.? They are a dime a dozen. LMAO you crack me up. Keep your gloating to Matthews and maybe Marner. The rest nobody gives a flying fuck about, they are disposables, easily acquired.BigTuna wrote:You don't know how to build a winning team. Nylander is a blue chipper. He's going nowhere and has great talent.
Again the Oilers never had this situation. They've never had 3 rookies on pace for 60+ points or 2 on pace for 70+.
Yet no other NHL franchise have rookies like this.RoyalDude wrote:Do you realize how stupid you sound gloating about players like Brown, Hyman and Zaitsev etc.? They are a dime a dozen.
