Seravalli: Will Canucks be in line for compensatory picks for Toffoli trade if season doesn't return
Frank Seravalli suggests it's not unthinkable that NHL revenue drops massively, which could lead to a much, much lower salary cap. Frank also says the league has it on the list of things to discuss,...

I mean, think about it.
Salary cap drops to $60M for 2020-21.
Things go back to normal and the salary cap SPRONG jumps to $85M the following season.
Can you see how damaging that would be?
The NHL doesn't have to let the Cap drop, so why would they?
Whatever that artificial number is, they still get 50% of revenues.
If playoffs are cancelled this year
... it only means they need to negotiate how the players are going to pay back some of their 2019-20 salaries.
Meanwhile the cap gets set for the next season based upon revenue projections, if C19 is under control, the 2020-21 projection
... should be about what?

Re: Vancouver's Hockey "Media"
No need for lawsuits, it's in the CBA, players only get 50% of revenues.
the money would be auto-deleted from them the following season
... or they could agree to something else.

The latter. I just can't see players under current legally binding contracts being fine with reducing their AAV for a season.Strangelove wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 4:54 pmNo need for lawsuits, it's in the CBA, players only get 50% of revenues.

And what about the players who just finished up their current deals? Obviously if the cap falls they'll have to accept less money, but the owners can't really get that back can they? Or does an increased amount going into escrow work that way?
Will we see this summer's UFA crop accepting short term deals because the cap will likely bounce back up again in 2 years?
Interesting times no doubt.

Re: Vancouver's Hockey "Media"
it is "legally binding" that they have to pay back anything over 50% of revenues in a given season.Mëds wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 4:59 pmThe latter. If more money needs to be paid back than what is held in escrow
... it comes out of the player's share the following season.
Players on expiring contracts would be freed from that as far as I understand it.
I've seen it speculated that players signing contracts this summer might prefer them back-loaded.
Yeah, not boring in that regard.

I read it, harman Dayal wrote it and under sold how horrible the prospect pool was, talked about how great the assets Benning inherited in the old core was. He then went on to complain about the placeholder players benning had to acquire to ice an nhl team while they sucked for 3 years during the rebuild, bitched about the salary cap (as if benning won’t do anything about it this offseason). All in all pretty shitty article, made comparisons to Edmonton and buffalo, but I want to see how we compare to Detroit and the Rangers, lets see them do what we did in 3 seasons.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2020 5:24 pm Any subscribers to the Athletic? I read that the players didn't receive their final paycheques of the season, to give a boost to escrow, beyond what's been deducted from their paycheques for escrow. Is that right?Strangelove wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 5:15 pm

If so , that would put escrow at ~ 17% (I think? Escrow was 9.5%, plus one paycheque out of 12 (?) for the year is 8.3%). If the playoffs proceed on TV only, that may be enough to cover lost revenue on the season. If everything is cancelled, its probably a massive difference to make up next year.

Yeah, if the NHL loses all that playoff revenue the players may be looking at something like a 40/60 split the next season.ESQ wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2020 5:52 pmI read that the players didn't receive their final paycheques of the season, to give a boost to escrow, beyond what's been deducted from their paycheques for escrow. The Sabres sucked this year! They are on the verge of their 7th lottery pick in the last 8 drafts all top 8 picks. Two are first overall one a 2nd overall.Richardstroker69 wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2020 5:51 pmI read it, harman Dayal wrote it and under sold how horrible the prospect pool was, talked about how great the assets Benning inherited in the old core was. This is a legitimate bitch. He didn’t ‘have to acquire’ these specific guys. Most of the players Elmer acquired for Jared McCann, three 2nds , a 3rd, a 4th, a 5th and a 6th are gone and were garbage here. They have one more year of Tanner Pearson to show for that.Richardstroker69 wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2020 5:51 pm He then went on to complain about the placeholder players benning had to acquire to ice an nhl team while they sucked for 3 years during the rebuild, bitched about the salary cap
Scrubs like Vey, Baertschi, Etem, Pedan and Gudbranson are available on waivers or UFA all the time if this age gap was such a concern. It wasn’t very good asset management.
I didn’t read the article but even the most ardent Benning supporters must admit that those weren’t assets well spent.

Young JD is just a boy you know. I heard him arguing on some podcast a while back that Alex Mogilny was a center because some publication said he was a center. Never mind that he never played center in his life. These kids have almost zero direct hockey knowledge. They get everything from stuff they read, and from other members of their echo chamber.
let's give Peter the 'C'
