I think that's a pretty good '25/'26 season forecast as things stand right now.

It seems odd, since the GM’s and their staff should be able to forecast the off season UFA season on what/who could/should be available “positionally”. We all see the contracts and lengths and terms, and who “could” be available, if not “extended”. Again, not getting a legitimate centre in return for both the Horvat and Miller trades but “project” type centre’s seems ridiculously risky especially with what was going on with Pettersson at the time of the Miller trade. By that, one would assume they had some kind of a back up plan for this off season to address this self inflicted lack of depth they created down the middle and in the top 6, overall, some kind of target or deal in the works? I know y’all like to think I’m picking on Allvin and Rutherford but their work this year has been surprisingly surprising, to say the least.

Raty and Hronek for Horvat.....good trade considering the state of the team at the time. It left us with JT, who had become a 1.0ppg power forward capable of handling 1C duties, and an, at the time, emerging Pettersson who looked like another 1C in the making. Horvat was rightly used to acquire a piece to fill the gaping hole on the right side in the top-4. At the time, they had extended Miller on a long-term contract and the plan was to go forward with Miller and Scooter. You can't condemn the Horvat trade because nobody expected Millersson-gate to happen.....when it did, well the NMC they had given JT tied their hands.

Some are saying that JT wasn't willing to go anywhere else, however, I think that if a player comes to management and asks for a trade that management's response should be that they will accommodate the request if the player waives the NMC and opens the door to 31 destinations. In this case, if JT wasn't doing that, then Pettersson should have been shopped immediately for the larger return.

I’m ok with the Horvat trade and the flip a pick for Hronek. Hronek solved a problem. I’m not ok with the Miller trade and the flip a pick for “another” Defenceman. Replacing Horvat and Miller with Raty and Chytil is tarded beyond belief. And here we find us, possessing the worst centre group in the entire league. It’s not easy landing a first or second line centre. Especially if nobody now wants to play in this drama filled team. Nobody is giving them away for peanuts hence the Wild turning down our 2025 first and a player for the 5’-9” Rossi.

We will be trading from a position of weakness, once again. We will have to give up more than we are willing to give up to fix a hole created buy dumb derisions.

I can see the Chef's logic when looking at the fact that they then flipped the 1st rounder for a LHD.....even if that trade did very much stabilize our blueline, we did have some guys in the pipeline, and LHD are easier to acquire (comparatively).

That 1st rounder should have been used (with other parts if necessary) to acquire a top-6 pivot.

My Sicilian friend - Macchenzzi is a bit too triggered to realize I was referring to the flipped NYR 1st. As you said, should’ve been flipped with parts for a centre, but the two goofs were so obsessed with getting M-Pete it blinded them. Didn’t help that they were a bit full of themselves thinking Shytil Shit For Brains Ferland 2.0 was a coup.

Unless Marchand and Bennett are taking team friendly deals to the tune of 50% market value, there isn't room for them both. Ekblad has to be retained as a RHD like him is not easily replaced at all. They have $19M for Ekblad, Bennett, and Marchand. All of them are $8M players.

Tree isn't on the hook for Tkachuk. He took the best offer available, and it was a good one. Huberdeau was coming off of a career season, Weegar was looking like a very good RHD, and a conditional 1st rounder.....for a guy who wouldn't re-sign.

He dropped the ball on Gaudreau. He shouldn't have let him delay his decision beyond the TDL.....if he knew that Johnny was leaving prior to the TDL then that's brutal asset management. Not dissimilar to Marner, however Mitch wouldn't waive his NMC for a trade and so Tree was stuck with Shanny and Dubas' mistake there.

I think they are trying to set themselves up to have a shit ton of room next summer in case McDavid wants to leave Edmonton and come home to Toronto.

At a rally yesterday Bennet yelled into the crowd, I ain't fucking leaving, I'll be back. Of course everyone cheered but it sure sounded like he was serious. The Ratman also said he wants to come back and a deal can be made. So that leaves Ekblad.
