Don't mind taking the risk. He likely woudln't crack the team next year, so it's essentially an extra year wait.

And with the way ELC's are going these days, might be wise to let this one slide a year or two. Could be a fantastic (cheap) addition in 2021-22.

I like this pick. Sounds like he is a skilled mean SOB. I like. We can wait a year or two for him.

Yea. Looks like he's setting up this year's top pic to be a cheap ELC deal right as we sign Petersson and Hughes to their big deals. I like the plan. I can almost see the vision of Benning. Cue the "I have a Dream" speech.

Its never who we think I've noticed. Have to put faith in the mans eye for young talent. Its proven to be astute.

Always worry when its the ruskies but it looks like we benefit from his khl contract
I just hope on this pick he was using the eye for talent he used on Brock, Quin and Elias rather than the eye he used on Jake, Jared and Oli.

Happy that it seems he did go with BPA though and hope this turns out as well as the first three picks mentioned. If it does, definitely worth waiting for a two year contract to expire.

Exactly what I was going to say. If he, as Burke stated, is indeed an nhl ready top five talent already, then adding him on the elc cheap after two years playing with professional men's league could be a coupe. In theory, this can go a long way towards winning championships. The big guns earning their big pay checks complimented by talent playing above their current pay grade.

There are some exceptional Russian players in the league right now. And note that the best ones don’t seem to be ‘problems’. Here’s hoping he makes it to the team sooner than 2 years.

I don't think it's a matter of talent, Puck. Pretty sure the NHL/KHL agreement forbids inter-league transfers, and the kid has a 2-year deal in the KHL. So he cannot come to North America until that deal is up.

Yeah, I realize that. Sorry, I sort of combined two thoughts there. 1) I hope he’s got serious talent and 2) whatever Burke speculated regarding the possibility of a shortened contract may come to pass. I suspect Benning didn’t even expect he’d be available.
