Kiefer Sherwood has been traded to the San Jose Sharks (no details just yet)

The Canucks acquired AHL defenceman Cole Clayton and second-round picks in both the 2026 and 2027 drafts from the Sharks in the trade.

So, we get a Dman for Abby and a couple of 2nd rounders. What happened to Filip Bystedt?

In someone else's hands, I would be more confident about picking in the second round as there's a small possibility to draft a franchise-changing player (ie. Aho, Bergeron, etc.)

Will these bozos trade these picks for some vets down the line? I wouldn't put it past these clowns.

Did Jim negotiate enough? Are we certain that no team that they've spoken to was willing to part with a 1st and this was the absolute best possible deal? Maybe, but I've no faith in this Cirque de SoLame.

2 x seconds is a solid return for a 3/4 th line energy guy who is having career numbers the past 18 months and is already 30

Well ain't you the voice of reason :scowl:

Circled by Sharks, afraid to draw blood. Give the old man a sammy, a cuppa Ovaltine and tuck him back into bed.

Agreed, 2 mid 2nd round picks.

More is better isn't it, not like they would get a top 15 pick for him.

I'm happy with two 2nds, I'd rather a 1st but ultimately we need to bulk out our drafts in addition to accumulating 1sts so this is also good.

(Cole Clayton is 25 and never sniffed the NHL on a rebuilding Sharks team, I assume he is a contract spot and nothing more.)

It is to wonder why the organization had to take on Clayton unless it's to make the number of contracts work. He's a virtually worthless AHL scrub. He doesn't even fight.

Essentially it's Sherwood for two 2nd-rounders. Quantity over quality, I guess.

Probably the most beneficial part of the deal is we don't get to see Sherwood go on a heater and win us some games.

Next...

He probably gets up early to listen to the CBC news

Yeah, when I heard a 1st was off the table I was hoping they'd push for two 2nds or at worse a 2nd & a 3rd. Not a bad return for a player we got with no acquisition cost a year and a half ago. We need to look for more of these short term flip deals to restock our picks, tho Sherwood's a rare find and you probably can't get guys like that to sign with rebuilders.

Another RHD. Is he a placeholder or just a contract dump.

The return is sane from a SJS perspective. All the talk of a 1st rounder was just that. Too bad the Canucks could not land their choice of a prospect but I agree 2 seconds is a decent return on the guy. Maybe it means as well that no agreement on an extension.

Happy with 2 seconds, they will be mid round picks in the 45 - 50 range.

No idea about the player.

I wasn't expecting a 1st to come back from Sherwood - but we at least have a couple of more assets that might be packaged into a first down the road.

Canucks now have 4 picks in the first two rounds, all will most likely be in the top 50, of this upcoming draft, pretty good start.

I'm betting it'll be 3 picks after we use two of them to move up somewhere in the draft.

I am betting more trades will happen and the Canucks will have another 1st and/or 2nd.
