Obviously losing Capt Dooshbag should have us jumping over them but still...thats pretty bad. I can only surmise that they must give far more credit to Markstrom for the teams success last year than anything else.

Just take a look at Minnesota ffs! How the fuck did they get slotted so far up their?

Crazy stuff! A different one..October but looks more likely.....https://www.oddsshark.com/nhl/stanley-cup-futures

Let’s not lose sight of the fact that Tanev and Markstrom are 30 plus players who just signed multi year contracts. Aren’t we wanting Benning to stop handing out big contracts to old dudes, or old dudes with a history of injuries? I’m seeing a bit of a wanting your cake and eating it to here. I imagine Pettersson and Hughes unpredicted lightning quick evolution into elite NHL players changed the off season plan a hair, the wake up call on realizing the two of them will be due big ass contracts in a very short while has had an impact on how to manage the cap “long term”. The short term thinking is no more here

Yes, there are more than Tanev and Toffoli’s contracts in bad contracts. But then you missed my point about Odysseus ordering himself tied to the mast. Signing those complimentary players at their ages to long term contracts could fit for this year but not future years. And I just don’t think those deals would have made sense (Tanev might have without the Vegas trade but would still be a risk).

I don’t think covid fucked the Canucks all that much given that everything about the cap is comparative and most competitive teams were having to make adjustments, limited in their opportunities for improvement. So I guess I agree that bad contracts affect the Canucks more than the flat cap, but I think that going into the season the team is better off this year than last, so I am not sure how it is they might be considered fucked....

+1

No more long term contracts to over 30 players. The game is changing big time and speed is becoming more important. Have a deep farm and prospects and you can replace some players through that. If you need to move a pick then get someone back 26-29.

Easier said than done of course but Calgary is going to be in a whole lot of hurt in 3 seasons.

JB seemed to have learned his lesson from his previous dealings.

I don’t think they are “fucked” either. I just felt the need to chime in on Dickie’s ridonkulous theory that it was COVID that did Vancouver in. He and others are unwilling to believe that Elmer has signed a poor contract in his entire tenure.

Maybe I should lay off smacking the piss out of the low hanging fruit but I find it too tempting sometimes.

Should have traded Tanev and Markstrom at the TD! He learned nothing from the Hamhuis fiasco.

Big difference between rebuilding and contending. Danny wasn't one for waiving good-bye anyways.

When in qualifications for the playoffs? I gather this is sarcasm

Beagle and Roussel are fine for what they bring. Sure, they could be replaced with cheaper players, but they'd be worse players. I mean, sure Chaput can be the 4th line center, but why?

The only bad contracts (imo) are Loui, Baertschi and Luongo. That's $12 million in cap space for players that don't even make the roster. One is gone this year, the other two the year after.

Lol. That’s a bit of a stretch.
