Yeah, human memories are squishy things. I should have double checked before I posted.

Ronning became a Canuck on March 5, 1991, and Nedved made the Canucks out of his rookie camp in the fall of 1990.

All good. Btw, Cliffy was a great little player for us and too bad he couldn't spend a few more years here with his hometown team, but he left right around the time the '94 team was fizzling out.

Kinda the way I feel about Garland, who might actually be Ronning's ghost with the uncanny similarities.

The way I remember it (no, just burned by that, better check)....
yeah, it looks like he was just walked to free agency and not re-signed, a la Hamhuis.

Cliff was a heart and soul Canuck who was treated with disrespect by Pat Quinn. Phoenix got him and then Quinn tried to replace him with the immortal Alexander Semak

Jim Rutherford: 'We're open to conversations on all players'

Some Highlights:

“We may end up saying no to offers, certainly, but we’re not going to say no to having conversations about any player. This is about improving this team without taking shortcuts...” (<- :?: :!: Interesting concept)

“...Continue to stick to either getting young players, 25 or younger, or getting draft picks.” (<- Picks please. More picks.)

“There’s deals out there that could make our team better today, but does it work for us over a three-year period? ... this rebuild can take two or three years, not six to 10.” (<- Chef-like adjustments :!: )

“There will be opportunities to also add veteran players who would play a developmental role for the team’s younger players. He cited Chicago’s signing of Nick Foligno in 2023 as an example...” (Giraffe and Meaty ain't going nowhere, we're adding even more!)

“...If we don’t stick to it, the rebuild process will take longer,” he said. “And get the people here what they deserve: a championship-calibre team. Our preference is to pick (in the draft) as high as we can.” (<- Huh, does Frank know about this new plan? Does he have money for rings?)

If Frank does know about this plan (and it's really the plan, etc.), then this is the best thing that has happened to this franchise since Mike Gillis was fired.

(Take that however you want, Chef)

May we all live to see the plan executed.

22 and younger please. By the time this team will be ready to compete, the 25's will be in their 30's and rolled over. I suppose you can always flip them sooner if they have value. But the aim should be to build a core at roughly the same age group, then go searching for older finishing pieces when they start to mature. Like the Habs, Sharks, Ducks...

For now, 22 and younger or more preferably like CY says, picks, picks, and more picks. Search for cap weaponizing stop gap scraps to fill the current roster.

I support the concept that we can add veteran players in FA to help supplement a young team. Don't hang onto any vets needlessly. I mean obviously on vets with term if we are getting shit offers then we need to weigh whether now is the right time to move on from them. But on UFAs get rid of them all no matter what the offers.

Players like Myers, Debrusk, Pettersson, both Petey and MPete, Doc, Hoglander Boeser, we have time to trade them in the summer or any time next season, including 2027 TDD. So I can see not selling too low on any of them. Players like Demko and Garland we need to decide if we want to cut bait and if we do, do it now. Otherwise they become harder to move after July 1st.

Yep, the plan is in place. Can we send these notes to ownagement? Is there an email?...

Imagine if they took our advice a decade ago. At least we have a checklist for items of things to see if they follow through on.

LOL

He had a hockey stick company in Burnaby for a while - BASE hockey. They custom fit you with custom sticks, using super slo-mo cams to dissect your shot etc. Pretty neat stuff. OK sticks.

They had a facility with two small rinks of artificial ice - super weird to skate on. But as I was out there by myself testing some curves while they were setting up in the other room, he threw on some skates and said "lets do some one timers!!!" with all the energy of a 5 year old.

He passed the puck over to me for a few muffins at the net - the demanded a few passes himself. It was eye-opening being on the ice with someone who could shoot that hard. Just remember him hitting the crossbar at some point and the puck came rocketing back and hit the camera and he squeaked. I couldn't stop laughing.

Fun times.

So - it's official, and out there now - better late than never. It also sounds like these guys are going to be running it.

2030 sounds a long ways off, I just hope we're all still around!
