2. Hutson - College - LS D-man
3. Cristall - minors - LW
4. Protas - minors - C/LW
5. Lakovic - WHL - LW
6. Miroshnichenko - minors - LW
7. Gastrin - Sweden - Centre

You’re not getting Leonard but for prospects Hutson, Lakovic and Gastrin have to be on the table. Not a huge fan of Cristall.

First, try muzzling the Raisin from talking all over the grapevine. Or fire both their asses and bring in someone with more contemporary views.

You got two valuable pieces left. The terrestrial is much more important than the ET. Do whatever you can to make the right choice before the choice is made for you.

At this point, if Rutherford and Allvin are shown the door, roster changes happen, and Hughes stays in Vancouver, then I think it's safe to assume that they did.

Only Mr Aquilini could oversee the series of management blunders we have all witnessed and still allow the same people who created this great big mess to trade the greatest player in franchise history at age 26 as a direct consequence of having made the mess in the first place.

That's my feeling.

I would be surprised if anyone disagrees with this Megs. It all starts at the top - and the mismanagement we've seen over the last few decades has been nothing short of shocking.

FA must have gotten used to doing business in Vancouver, as real-estate has been such a boon, and seems to be immune to rise/fall cycles in that particular city (until now, which is even more concerning for the Canucks). He could be businessman at the level of Trump University, or Trump Airlines - and his real estate would still prop those up. He doesn't need to know anything about running a business - real estate and YOUR Vancouver Canucks will keep him rolling in it until the cows come home.

I’m pretty much resided with the fact that as long as the Aqualini’s are the owners it will be a Mickey Mouse club until such a time they sell. Shoulda seen the writing on the wall when they demanded Nonis to get rid of young prospects in Kesler and Bieksa and a first round puck for a fading out veteran (Brad Richards I believe) and Nonis said no - “your fired!”. The pattern hasn’t changed.

I find enjoying a series of well spun fatties really knocks the angst away from caring about Canucks bullshit over the past half century or so

Re new posters - sometimes I feel like I’m stepping into a bar in a new place in the middle of an argument that’s been going on for a long time and I just take my beer to the back. But it’s colourful!

Re QH - assuming he hasn’t given ownership the warning that he won’t resign, I think there’s a path back to elite team status without a total rebuild. They’re terrible now and that’s with some high priced players. What this shows is that hockey is a weak link sport and the centres are obviously mediocre. If you can’t trade for them, you have to grow you own. Cootes is in the system. Did we think he has 2/3 potential? I think he did. If we get one more legit pivot then with Raty at 3/4 and the ambulatory husk of Alien we would have legit depth at the position.


That’s how I’d try to sell it to QH.

A bit early to tell but I don’t see Cootes as a 1C, maybe tops out as a tier 2 - 1C or plain ole 2C.

I think everyone needs to treat the returns on Hughes with a focus on getting the best player available then go from there for the rest of the package, value out from there.

My worry is is we are (management) focused too much on getting “a centre” first and foremost in which could vary well end up downgrading the value of the “best part” of the returning package. Fuck positional need, just get the best quality asset regardless of position, for instance if it’s Detroit I’m saying to them “we start with Evidsson” and go from there. You don’t start low with, for instance - centres (positional need) like Kasper or Danielson because pound for pound - Evidsson holds much much more value.

We really need to stop focusing on quantity over quality, it’s watering down the product. After you agree on Edvinsson you then shoot for Carter Bear because IMO - Bear has a higher ceiling than Kasper and Danielson. Then if they agree on Edvinsson and Bear you try to snag one of those two centres and a first round pick. You start with the best possible asset, aim for it regardless of position.

Agreed Chef. Trades that send out a franchise player should be treated like 1st round draft picks.....best player available. When you make trades like that based upon positional need, you simply cannot progress properly and you will come away the loser if a better player was available but you took lesser to fill a hole in the shitty job you did of constructing the team.

The other thing to remember is that trading Hughes means rebuild. It doesn't mean re-tool unless you are getting a 1C AND a dman as good as Hronek back in the package.
