Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26
Everything from expansion to '82 was pretty lame, and '82 was just a blip. But it wasn't discouraging, because expansion expectations were low, and everybody had a different team to cheer for while they waited for the Canucks to become relevant. How the Canucks were doing didn't even seem relevant until the Quinn era, when the team got their first whiff of respectability.
The last 10-15 years haven't been the worst years, but to me, they felt worse because they were coming off what seemed like legitimate chances to succeed that came up short, while also refusing to do what I think we all now agree was the obvious thing to do about it. So the Canucks refused to re-build but wound up sucking anyway, and now instead of getting the payoff from 15 years of playoff irrelevance, they're just (maybe) now starting the hybrid re-tool.

The League being the old-boys club that it is, you need someone with a hockey pedigree in the front office, or the other GMs won't even pick up the phone.
Within that limitation, the Sedins seem to me like smartest people to have been associated with this organization. I'd like to see what they could do.
In a parallel vein, same argument for Larionov, if he could be persuaded to leave Russia.
Re: Canucks News N Notes 25-26
Good short summary, RG. We started with low expectations, and had much hight expectations for the post-Sedin era. It's just been so mismanaged.
And let's not mention the the dreaded 'm-era'

Thank you.
Yeah, I tend to just blot those out.
I said Quinn first made the Canucks relevant, but there was another relatively brief Dark Age between the fading of the Quinn era and Burke restoring them to respectability. Because of the much shorter duration, I'd say it wasn't as bad as the past 15 years, personalities notwithstanding.

It has been widely reported, coming from Dreger I believe, that the Canucks are not shopping Pettersson but are now willing to listen to offers. So part of the re-build hybrid I guess. Like we won't ask but we will listen. It has also been reported by Dreger that the Canucks have not reached out to Pettersson's agent, which they will need to do if they are serious about trading him.
So to answer your question??? All rumour mongering without substance. Just regurgitating what everyone knows when a team says it is rebuilding, in whatever fashion. Other GMs will do their due diligence. So we click and read. But no offers have been made, just feelers as to what it would take.

Everything should be on the table. Something is seriously wrong if they're not taking calls on everybody.
Come to think of it, are there any untouchables? Even though it probably wouldn't make much sense to move a couple of the young D, but if a Suzuki or C.Gauthier type situation shakes loose you gotta look at it.

Ya to me there are no untouchables. Certainly players I would like retain moving forward but nothing untouchable.Nuckertuzzi wrote: ↑Wed Jan 14, 2026 1:41 am Everything should be on the table. Something is seriously wrong if they're not taking calls on everybody.

Moving forward I would like to keep all of our young D but would consider trading Dpetey. I think he is overhyped. I would like keep Hronek if he wants to stay for the rebuild. But only if he wants to. I am on the fence about MPete. Whether he stays or goes there is value. Myers you trade after July 1st when his modified trade clause kicks in for best offer. So any draft capital would be for 2027.
Up front I would like to keep very few. But I recognize we do need some vets. I would keep DOC. He only has one more year and I think he brings a good work ethic. I would keep Karlsson as I think he shows what type of work and perseverance is needed. Of course Rossi and Ohgren stay for now at least. I would even consider a one year extension for Kampf as he is a good 4th line centre and kills penalties. But I would listen to offers on every single player. Our best trade chip, other than Sherwood, maybe be Garland due to his not having trade protection until July.
We should get something decent for Hoglander, DeBrusk, Pettersson. Take a bag of pucks for Kane if you can get them. Although we need vets to finish the season so maybe you let him finish the year. If Chytle, Bluegar get healthy trade them too for whatever you can get. I would try to convert Sasson to LW. See if that provides more scoring depth. Raty, either or, who cares.
Obviuosly they won't trade everyone but my hope is that the vets they keep have short term, 1-3 years.
Oh and trade Demko!!

The vets... for me it's as simple as keeping only the ones who will get you nothing in return. The rest, take whatever you can get. And stagger them if necessary, no need to extract them all at once since this is going to be a long process anyway. Garland I can see for sure due to his no protection, now's the time to strike on him.
I agree with Karlsson (I really like this guy despite some of his limitations), but guys like he, DOC and Rossi are at the age range where they can be punted down the road. Perhaps keep them for a couple of years and assess then if they fit into however the rebuild is progressing or future trade bait.
Btw, I may be in the minority but in retrospect I think bringing in Kane was a worthwhile gamble. Didn't like giving up a 4th, but it is only a 4th. The only problem is he didn't live up to his end of the gamble because if he played well he would be a good trade chip for someone looking for a finishing piece at a fraction of his cap hit. Not sure if flipping him for a higher pick was the intended target, but if it was and it worked, it's exactly the type of move I wouldn't mind seeing more of. The hope is you can still recover the 4th.

The Geriatric and RoboSwede need to be gone first and foremost.
They inherited a team nearly out of a rebuild, did everything in their power to kill it and are currently reaping what they sow.
