This is not a surprise. I’m sure they would dump him for next to nothing if they did not have to retain. D’Petey is ready and MP3 is here too. If they could free up his cap that gives us flexibility to add a top six at some point. Although I do worry that trading him after trading Brannstrom weakens our depth and we all know how important that is.

This actually isn’t new news as it has been rumoured since last season. Canucks were trying to find cap to keep both Zadorov and Lindholm and Soucy’s name was brought as a piece they could move to help this. Soucy is not useless but as I have said with the acquisition of MP3 and the emergence of DPetey he is now a player that they could jettison to make cap room but it comes at the risk of depleting d depth.

D Pete has 3 games, gotten more comfortable each game but emergence? That's a stretch.

While I agree that Soucy would be an overpaid #6 dman, I was more bitching that the media just can't seem to leave this team alone. New trade block issues, Petey is next, players good by tweets to JT mean more than good by, etc... All of it is 100% speculation against a damaged dressingroonm.
They always try and make something out of nothing. Having the local media like Quads passing on rumors simply adds fuel to the fire. None of it helps the team or the room to move past the JT era.

The only thing management got right with that debacle is they moved enough players to change the culture of the team. Cut out the cancer, and now its simply gotta heal.

And winning is healing.

D-Pete isn't subject to waivers this year, next year (Soucy's last year under contract), or the next year. Same story with KK and Mynio.

I'm not saying don't move Soucy if there's a good return -- he's a complement piece -- but I wouldn't move him because he's redundant because he's not yet redundant. It might be a risk worth taking depending on the return, there might be other things with Soucy that we don't see, but it's not a move compelled by asset allocation reasons.

I think that was the point I was trying to make. Moving him is a risk at this point. We don’t have depth on D that we can reliably say will fill his role. But I could see them wanting his cap if they are targeting someone in the top 6. We still have Forbert!!

Agree with Wiebo here. Its not time to move Soucy. I think his play will take off once now that a lot of his tougher minutes will go to MP. Let the kid bounce back and forth between here and Abby this season. No idea why people want to rush him. So fucking impatient. Soucy just played a great game and has looked better recently.

Soucy is currently at worst the # 5 D man and his pay and play reflect that. Much to do about nothing except for the pee pants outfit and the media neckbeards. He starts 2/3 of his shifts in his own end and unlike last year, he and Myers don't have Ian Cole and Nikita Zadorov to help soak up those hard, high leverage minutes. They cant keep shipping guys out because it's fun for fans. Soucy isn't an issue. If he's traded for an upgrade or part of a package for an impact player, fine. But there's some folks that think they net a blue chip prospect and a 1st for he and Boeser. It's just that easy.
