Chat GPT believes:
❌ For Vancouver:
They’re giving up a franchise cornerstone for a package that feels more like a “retool,” not a true equal-value swap.
✔️ For New Jersey:
It’s a dream scenario — they fix their only weakness and become an instant Cup favorite.

Final Answer
Nemec + Mercer + 2026 1st is a strong offer… but still not enough for Quinn Hughes unless Vancouver is rebuilding.
To be comfortable, the Canucks would likely ask for:
➕ Nemec
➕ Mercer
➕ 2026 1st
➕ Another 1st or another top prospect

Basically Quinn Hughes should be valued at five unprotected first round picks ……or equivalent in players/prospects.

I agree with Chat GPT.

What does Chap G. Petey believe?

Did it smirk when it gave you the answer?

If the firsts were unprotected I would be happy with that return for the Canucks.

If the Devils keep stinking this may be what speeds a deal up, if there is one.

Who knows if Jack Hughes is Jack Hughes for his entire career.

Kid gets hurt a lot.

I wonder if this hand injury fucks with his stick work.

Pure conjecture.....

I also wonder if Quinn can handle Frank the Tanks fandom.

Add Hughes to the Devils, it will not matter if they are unprotected, making this point irrelevant.

If Friedman is right and the Canucks are looking to move Hughes, what you hope is that Pittsburg or Washington see Hughes as the last piece to win a cup this season. They give up the five picks to win a cup and then implode afterwards and the Canucks get their lottery picks as they crash to the bottom after winning the cup and the superstars retire. I’d throw in any or all of Sherwood, Kane, Bluegar, Forbort and/or Myers (if he’ll waive) to close the deal.

I think in the end it will come down to Jersey, Philly or Detroit. Jersey cause of his bros, Philly cause of Tocchet and because Philly and Jersey are practically the same city, Detroit cause it’s where the Hughes family lives off season.

Doesn’t Hughes have no trade protection this season? If you are going to trade him, now really is the time. The Canucks should get a, better than expected, package back for him.

Or maybe he will stay, and sign a McDavid-esque 2 year, team friendly show-me deal - allowing a bit more time for the kids to be alright, let the dead weight slough off (Kane, Bains, Kampf, Riechel etc), buy out Chytil (or perma-LTiR him), trade Lanks for a bag of pucks and no retained dollars.

Throw some money at UFAs in the off-season with the available cap space, Panarin to ride shotgun with Petey, Malkin to Centre the 2nd line, convince Kopitar to play one more season as the 3rd line C by offering shares in a blueberry farm when he retires.

Make hay while you can!

There will also probably be a dark horse team no one knew about throwing their lot in and driving up the price.
