Besides Soucy and Forbort, they should keep the defence. They have finally rebuilt a good group.
The goalies are also worth hanging on to for at least another year.
Their best goalie by far is Demko.
Any chance he can get back healthy is worth a roll of the dice.
They can still afford to resign him even if he has a Vézina year next season.

The forward group is a mess.
The forwards worth moving are Sherwood and Suter (sell high)
The forwards worth being very patient with are Joshua and Pettersson.

I think that any sane always GM has to be willing to entertain all offers.

But for purposes of a thread like this, I think when posters say "move X", it should be construed to mean "I don't see a future for this player with the club, so better to take a little less than full market value for the benefit of gaining roster space/cap space/whatever the return might be, rather than just losing them for nothing". And I think that from what I have seen, the greatest value any such player will return is on TDD, so that's the time to do it.

For anyone else, you hold out for at least full market value. I don't think the Canucks have a winning roster, and I'm not even convinced on the idea of the foundations of a winning roster, but I'm not yet at "move X" on all of them.

I don’t think Boeser was ever disgruntled here. I think he was despondent for a brief time after back-to-back injuries. Then depressed after the death of his father.

They have already been very patient with Pettersson. It’s time to turn the page.

Nelson and Tavares are 2 that I am aware of but their respective teams probably will resign them by July 1.

Yes - I had a look too, and didn't see much - and most that will be available are in the 33-34 year old range.

If they’re going to upgrade at C, it will have to be via trade. Unlikely to happen at the TDD because the kind of centers management would want, other teams wouldn’t likely wouldn’t want to trade that close to the other playoffs. Will likely happen in the offseason.

Asking price will be high for anyone good. Can we now talk about how the team threw away draft picks over the years instead of drafting and developing players? 8-)

Unless Chytil shows something more than he has to-date, management is going to have to upgrade at 1C or 2C. Kid's shown flashes, but he hasn't even put up 2C numbers. That will require roster surgery; picks and prospects won't cut it, I imagine. Management just set up the blueline, so I don't suspect they'll cut from there unless someone wants Soucy or Forbort as a throw-in (unlikely IMO given their contracts). In that case, we're looking at Boeser, Suter, Hoglander - or even Petey. Management has a lot of hard decisions to make remodeling the core after the Miller fiasco.

We could talk about pissing away picks in pursuit of playoff contention, but it wasn't unreasonable for this management to think they could start going that way with the core they had - even if you didn't agree with that decision. They just didn't factor Miller losing his shit and throwing it all over the dressing room this season.

That said, the centre depth in the organization is atrocious, and needs addressing. They have blueliners and goaltenders galore, and some plug-and-play bottom-6 wingers, but outside of Raty (who, let's be honest, has a 3C ceiling) the centre position is a wasteland.

The entire forward core is a disaster.

Whatever happened with Miller took the entire plan into the ditch. I lay the blame on management for not reading the situation and letting veterans, like Schenn, who could keep Miller in line, go on to other teams. They also should have seen the writing on the wall with Pettersson. If the situation/relationship between Miller and Petey was the catalyst to this, then giving 11.6 sheets to him was like gas on a fire. They left themselves a backdoor that was open for 1 year, but they never even bothered to go through it even though this should-be leader didn't put in the off-season work that one would reasonably expect of that sort of player. But, as the great 44 once said, it is what it is, and it is the past.

The Now.....

We have a lone (should-be) 1C. However, he's playing like an elite 3rd liner. Maybe Sammy Pahlsson was his idol and nobody knew.

We have one top-line winger in Boeser, and if we're being honest he's probably an elite second liner on a consistent contender.

DeBrusk and Garland are 2nd line guys who can play up in a pinch but require a good center to be truly effective. The former is quite streaky.....but in reality, most second line players are somewhat prone to that. Chytil is a tweener. He has the speed and skill to be a good 2C, however he strikes me as the guy who can only achieve that in the perfect scenario with fairly specialized linemates.

Suter, Hoglander, Joshua, Sherwood, Blueger, and O'Connor, are 3rd line talent. I suspect that Hoglander has top-6 potential in him, but like Chytil is someone who requires a rather narrow set of conditions.

It will be VERY difficult to fix this.

I don't know. PDO is a garbage stat because hockey is constantly evolving. The funny thing I've always felt with those stats, is they make for an interesting hockey card, but they also tell their own stories. Not of the player, but of the person.

Beyond that, Mëds, maybe that's what I needed to hear so thank you for your words at least.

Miller is missed. He'd school and wipe his ass with Gordie Howe, Bob Probert, Joe Thornton, Cam Neely and Eric Lindros. They must have his HHOF plaque dialed in already. He's certainly got his speech ready. The dude is a legend.
