Fast, well played game but Vegas had more in the tank in the third.
Good effort Rats.

When Blueger is your only goal scorer you don't win.

Seems like they played a decent game against perennial contenders.
The usual case of quality depth of the Haves vs. the not quite Haves?

Canucks owned the first period. Vegas pushed back in the 2nd. In the 3rd our legs were clearly on the second game in as many nights.
Offensively our top lines are struggling to generate.
Miller and Boeser are not the same as last year. Go figure. A concussion and a mental health leave. I don't expect them to hit form until end of January.
Pettersson is totally invisible offensively against teams like Vegas. I will say that there was a good article pointing out where he ranks amongst NHL forwards on the defensive side of the puck, and it's quite high. First among all forwards in total defensive plays. Whoduh thunk it?

It wasn't the depth players that were the issue last night... or the last few games - absolutely nada from the top guys, Petey, Miller, Boeser, Garland.
Only Hughes showed up, as usual - that guy is something else.

Some of us.
He is still an elite player, just not as elite has he can be. There is more there, for sure. Will we see it again is the question, and as the season drags on, it is very much in question.

A few comments;
Recall last season that the teams that gave Vancouver the most trouble were big, well discipline teams. What was done to to address that in the off season. Management made moves to make the team smaller and slower.
$11.6M Scooter Boy has the puck on his forehand in the slot. Does he shoot or does he drop pass to Deharnais at the point for him to shoot? Deharnais shot wide.
Ricky is running the wheels off Hughes.
All this going to the Sabres talk has begun to rub off on the team as the prepare to play like their new team.
Where is this commitment to fitness and fighting through fatigue that was a highlight of last years coaches speeches? Has Rickey been tuned out? Is the only message the players hearing "Pride, Hustle, Desire"?
Loser point begets loser.

Yes, I understand the top guys aren't getting it done in the last 3-4 games or so. What I asked was the quality of depth of our team vs the real contenders.
Our forward depth may be decent, but even when the team is fully healthy, does it stack up against the top echelon teams? Does guys like Heinen, Blueger, Suter, Hoglander, etc. propel us into the same deep territory if/when our top guys perform to their abilities?
I know for sure our D is FAR from what true contenders needs, even when fully healthy. Depth is so shallow when you have to bust out AHLers every night and push guys up into the top 4. Honestly, if the Captain wasn't playing out of his mind or god forbid, had to be out for any period of time... this could be a Buffalo-like lottery team.
Did we regress or was last year an anomaly of over-achievement?

Both, and it was predicted with the number of career years in the line up topped with management not addressing the weaknesses.
