His contract is fine. They can trade him and fetch a decent (not amazing) return. They won’t have to attach a good prospect to ship him out. This isn’t a Milan Lucic or Loui Eriksson millstone. The kid will be 23 and should be a lock for 60 points a year.

His value is in the tank Blob. If they are hell bent on offloading his bullshit then theyre not going to like the offers...especially if they need defense as vad as they do.

My guess is they try to keep him and move other pieces.

I know his value isn’t what it was last summer but it isn’t in the tank. He’s a kid. He can play. He’s a bit too timid for me so I wouldn’t offer a ton because I want the top six to have a little more chutzpah. There are teams that need his skill level up front. I know we all hate the Leaves but they aren’t going to give him away based on a poor half season with no proper training after two 60 points years.

The Canucks are getting a better return on the dollar in Virtanen. $6 million Ehlers zero goals 21 playoff games just awful. 10.2 million William 7 goals 56 games

Virtanen isn’t worth more in a trade than Ehlers or Nylander.

Or are you saying Virtanen has a better value contract? I agree with this. Virtanen is one of the few Canucks providing good value for what they are paid.

And this should make you happy due to your concerns regarding return value on contracts (Eriksson and Sutter)

Fuck, I'd do that.

We help them with the cap by weaponizing our cap space. Eat that salary for a few years, pump up the softy no-show swede then flip him.

They can sign Kapanen, a better player for less. They can pay Marner. They get someone who can actually play D.

Really, are they going to continue to have Hainsey as their #1 right-side D? Laughable for a "contender". They're already going to lose Gardiner for nothing.

Maybe we should also trade them Hutton for Kapanen?

All that and their 1st in this year's draft.

Is this worse than a Skyo fantasy?
Toronto traded their 1st round pick in the Muzzin trade.

(they threw Grundstrom and Durzi into that trade as well)

And just say no to Nylander...

Well, fuck that sideways with a Babcock. I agree then, say no to Swedish Charmin.

So, Hainsey and Muzzin are their top D. Another year older and slower.

Their already weak D will be losing Jake "worse Dman in Game 7 history" Gardiner.

Mr. Andersen and Sparks are their tandem.

You don't hear much from the TO media about Teflon Shanny, do you?

I have no problem with Virtanen at that price.

Nylander's contract isn't Eriksson-bad or Lucic-bad, but it's about on par with Bobby Ryan - another 20ish goal winger, his contract is $7.25.

Frankly, they would be far better off trading Willie and keeping Jonsson and Kapanen. Willie is not elite, and does not drive offence - much like Jonsson and Kapanen and Hyman and any other winger who has scored 20 goals with Matthews.

Nylander is 23 and has a fair bit more recent success than Ryan who is 32. Nylander still has positive value. I’d trade if I was Dubas too, for cap relief.

Its a crazy bad contract 7 goals 56 games 10.2 Million he made. A playoff no show, patented

I generally agree with Blob on this. Nylander has shown elite level skills, is only 23 and could not possibly got a worse start
to the season. He got a million too much and as a player the ONLY thing I would hesitate on having him in Van, is if we were making a big investment
you want to see a little more grit, growl, , as it were.
We always think it's between the player and the GM but there's that nasty agent guy in between. However in this case, seems Duby and Willie
may well have jeopardized each other's jobs, boo-hoo.
I wonder though, if Bo would have wanted him or something along the same ilk on his wing last year?

Mëds wrote: Mon Apr 29, 2019 2:50 pm You think Edmonton is going to part with a blueliner to bring in yet another soft scoring winger who held out for half the season on his first deal and then woefully underwhelmed after finally signing and showing up? :look:
About the only thing worth considering here. Also, "yet another"? Who are Edmonton's other scoring wingers? Chiasson? Kassian? Edmonton needs to find scoring beyond McDavid and Draisaitl.

How many times do you see a player get a late start to the season (via injury or holdout) and never really get on track? Do you think Nylander is closer to a 40-point player (54 games last season) or a 60-point player (over the 163 games prior)? He's a top-20 RW in points (and P/Gm) over the past three seasons, while playing less than every player ahead of him.

Doc has also highlighted many times how much $$ he makes between putting pen to paper and July 1st this summer. He'll have chewed through $20M of his contract by that time, and be due $24.7M over the next 5 seasons (a nice $2M difference between cap hit and real $$).

The asking price will be a top-4 dman. If our D wasn't in such a sad state, and if we weren't looking to dangle Virtanen to find an upgrade on Ben Hutton, I'd do that deal (Nylander for Hutton+Virtanen).
