Odds are good for Elias Pettersson, dude is about to break the Sedins and Peter Forsberg's SHL U20 scoring records, his PPG is already better than those aforementioned.Reefer2 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2018 12:01 pmAgreed.Mëds wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2018 10:34 amMaybe he is. Maybe he isn’t.
Both him and Pettersson are ranked high, and deservedly so, but the NHL is a big step up from the big ice of the SHL, and even more so from the second tier league Dahlen is currently playing in. We have seen plenty of highly touted Europeans and Russians come across and find the NA game difficult to adjust to.
As a Canuck fan I am happy our prospects are doing well in what ever league they are in but until they play 2 seasons in the NHL we do not know what we have. One thing for sure none of this make a genius out of anyone.
I would actually say as much as 3 seasons. That sophomore slump is a real thing that has to be considered. If Boeser only scores 20 goals next season do we give up on him and call him a flash in the pan rookie? Or do we wait and see how he bounces back in year 3?Reefer2 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2018 12:01 pmAgreed.Mëds wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2018 10:34 amMaybe he is. Maybe he isn’t.

Well, different teams have different strategies. Seems to work pretty OK for Växjö though, who lead the SHL and reached the Champions Hockey League final. The Finns defended well, but you may have noticed the disputed non-goal, which would have tied the game. A Växjö player stopping right in front of the crease and then being pushed into the goalie by a Finn just as Växjö scored. Imho there was no contact with the goaltender inside the crease before he got pushed, and thus the goal should stand, but I guess it's a 50-50 call which really could go either way. Shrug. First time a non-Swedish team wins the CHL, btw.micky107 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 06, 2018 12:29 pmWell, they lost this game 2-0. It was a Championship game.
Per: Can you weigh in on this when your about?
What I noticed more than anything was the unbelievably long shifts by the Swedish coach, all game.
Is this normal?
Seems to me shorter shifts, like in the NHL, would have made a world of difference.

Why don't we just "decide 'what we have'" now and anoint all our prospects as generational talents before they (or many of them) have played a single game in the NHL.Strangelove wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2018 6:43 pmMëds wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2018 1:44 pmI would actually say as much as 3 seasons. Why don't we just wait until players retire before we decide "what we have".![]()
