It wasn't a strike, it was a lockout.

The owners wanted (and got) a larger percentage of the ever increasing revenue pie.

Average salary only increases if revenues increase.

Also, cost certainty drives up franchise value.

Y'might say rising salaries signal the fact that owners are getting richer.

Say what you will about the Nucks but at least MG has not thrown around any stupid contract lately (do you notice I said lately?) The Luongo contract is bad but only because of the length, his cap hit is awesome compared to some others.
I actually can't think of a stupid contract that MG has thrown out. (This does not include trading for players with overly expensive price tags).

Sundin was crazy, but it was short term and designed to send a message to the team, the fans, and players around the league, that Vancouver was serious about being a contender and willing to spend to the cap.

Strike/lockout same thing, hockey was disrupted once again because owners/players cant decide on how spend the billions they make from fans.

I just cannot believe what forwards who avg. less than a point a game can make. Also seeing these deals if MG wanted to pull a deal that involved Edler can you imagine what he could get back for the caphit Edler has? of course that would mean that MG has no credibility with players anymore but then does that matter when you want to win the cup?

Ummm if you're saying Edler has a low cap-hit for what he brings

... then how does trading him make your team better in a salary-cap world? :mex:

I didn't say (in this post) to trade him, I said can you imagine the return because of his cap hit being so low and how good he is.

Linus Omark, who never really took off in Edmonton and spent last season in Switzerland, is returning to the NHL, as Edmonton has agreed to trade his rights to another team. Undisclosed which team, so perhaps part of a bigger deal, with all details still not in place?

K so the Leaves did NOT buyout Liles. :hmmm:

So how do they sign Kadri + Franson and remain under the cap?

Nonis is fucking up the Leaves real good.

Gotta love it!

They have over 5 million left. They should be able to get both for under a 2.5 per no?

No.

They deserve a minimum $3.5mil each even on short term contracts.

Not to quibble but the Leaves have $4,895,833.

And they will want to retain close to a million of that as breathing room for injury-replacement callups, etc.

If they had gone one more year with Reimer/Scrivens instead of opting for Reimer/Bernier they would've had room

Or if they hadn't elected to trade for Bolland.

Or if they hadn't elected to overpay Clarkson and Bozo.

They are now screwed in the depth department.

Look for Leafers to be blaming injuries when they miss the playoffs this season.

It may be a tad premature, but I am looking forward to reminding the tools here in Ontario that they could have had Luongo, but they should just settle down and enjoy five more years of genius management.

Let's see Dreger wipe his coz's jizz off his chin and spin this one into something sugary for the masses here.
