Beagle is overpaid but at the time the team had a gaping void in leadership and plenty of cap room. Hindsight being 20/20 is great and all but a good team guy who wins more draws than he loses and sticks up for his teammates will always be welcome on a rebuilding squad. Nobody knew then that the rebuild would hit nitrous with 40 and 43 so an extra year for a cup wi nning vet on the roster during those critical formative years was and still is a decent signing.

I heard we offered 2 years. I would have been fine with giving Tan-Man 2 years, maybe 3, but would definitely pass on 4. There's still lots of time and there's a small chance we can still get a guy like Travis Hamonic on a 1 year team friendly deal. If we can add Schmidt-Hamonic to our D core over losing Tanev-Stecher, that would be a huge upgrade and would look quite deep there. Instead of our D being a weakness, it'll look like a strength.

If we don't add anyone, we'll just have to go with one or two of our young guys. Not my first choice, but will roll with it. I'm actually quite bulllish on Rafferty and am curious what we have in the 3 of them anyways.

It is too bad LE or didn't retire and or Baertchi either retired or f**ked off to Europe. The the team could have had both Nate Schmidt,& Tanev.
