Stand pat and keep your powder dry. If that's the plan just dismantle the whole deal this summer. Get rid of EP, Quinn, Hronek, Demko and Lankinen. Burn it right to the ground. Load the fuck up on picks and prospects. Throw Dakota and Sherwood in there, buy out Shityl and go nuclear. Keep a few vets and ride the bottom of the payroll. I'm good if they do that. Load up on fighters to entertain the fans and protect the kids. But its either try and reset/retool or blowtorch it to Kingdom Come. The rikster plan of just doing the bare minimum and seeing how it plays out is horrendous.

Sorry Richard......take care.

Mëds wrote: Tue Jun 03, 2025 11:56 am The news about Silovs, while encouraging, should be taken with a grain of salt though. He was also rumoured to be an up-and-comer (lacking experience) when he took the crease in the 2024 playoffs, he made some fairly incredible stops in the scrambles and down low, but was exposed for his inability to track longer shots through traffic. He then was not looking like he was NHL ready in training camp and pre-season. All that just to say that it may be premature to suggest any sort of confidence in a Lankinen-Silovs combination between the pipes.
If management is confident enough that Silovs has sorted out his issue with long-range shots through traffic, the Demko becomes a chip. That was really the vulnerability Edmonton exposed last Spring. Outside of a couple rough outings, he's looked the part of a young stud prospect this playoffs. We'll see how he does the rest of the way, but he is undoubtedly looking more like what management thought they had against Nashville vice what they saw in training camp.

Yeah, Demko and Lankinen are a better tandem on paper but Lankinen and Silovs are not a tire fire either.

Put another way, which tandem would you rather?

Stollarz and Woll

or

Lankinen and Silovs?
I'm actually not sure.

Florida was not happy to lose Stolarz to Toronto, and the leaves were looking like they might have enough to get past the 2nd round before he went down to that phantom elbow. Lankinen's resume has been as a backup, although last year he carried the mail for this team.

Woll has a better resume to date than Silovs.

I’m close to throwing a hand grenade into the room and starting from scratch, the same old shit has worn me right down. Really not sure how we are going to find a couple more legit core players to go along along with Quinn Hughes. We ain’t exactly a desirable location for UFA’s to come here, not anymore. Hovering around .500 hockey is just a complete waste of fucking time. I won’t hope the way San Jose has hope, I’d rather be a team of the future than constantly circling the drain of wildcard hockey year in year out, not getting anywhere

Dodson had a horrific season this year, Barzal has plateaued, regressed:

Pettersson - 26 years old - $11.6 million per year
Hronek - 27 years old - $7.25 million per year

For

Barzal - 28 years old - $9.15 million per year
Dobson - 25 years old - RFA

- Canucks want to and are trying to trade Petey this summer. The Sedin twins referred to him as 'uncoachable' and management doesn't believe in him anymore. I can't say I blame them!
Diehard, how would you rank the legitimacy of this? It’s hard to decipher which rumors are false and which are true, or should I say, are legit.
I was sworn to secrecy on who told me, but let’s just say it was somebody who knows the owner well.

Ok, sounds legit.

It’s safe to say , knowing the Sedins and the calibre folk they are, that their assessment of Petey needs no second guessing…doubting.

If all of this is true, what a huge, huge mistake or series of mistakes have been made. A return of a top six centre plus would be a win.

Apparently, Rutherford was the driving force behind giving Pettersson “that” new contract and that not “everyone” was on board with it. Stubbornness on Rutherford’s part may be why this has dragged out and why “some” (Tocchet) decided to leave. IMO, Petey may just be a part of the problem.

All this may explain some of the recent strange behaviour from Allvin and Rutherford with mic’s in front of them. Especially Allvin, who seemed particularly frustrated at the deadline.

I don’t think we are winning any Pettersson trade. I’m assuming the goal now is to try and get out from under that contract and as far away from this player as humanly possible.

Yeah, read between the lines on talk radio, you can tell most of the media has the inside info. They are all arm chair trading Petey. It’s all what Drance was talking about yesterday and Kypreos and Friedman. It’s becoming the worst kept secret.

Friedman made a good point with Kypreos yesterday saying ‘they (Canucks management) know what the offers are’. It’s most likely the reason why he hasn’t been traded yet.

Be prepared to be as equally disappointed as the Miller trade, if not, more so. He’s a troubled player with a gigantic contract. Would you give up the farm for that risk?

With so many teams looking for the same thing driving up costs, I wonder if the better move would be to stand pat and look at a collateral damage type of deal...

Maybe be the third party in a deal that needs money moved off the books and pick up picks or prospects as part of the deal rather than trading EP which I think would be the wrong move...

Take care...
I tend to agree, rikster. We could use some stability for a season. We have had so much turnover, we really don't know what we have anymore. Take the organic hockey trades as they come, but don't force a bad trade to shut up media and fans and Blob. 😀

Linden mentioned the rift on Donnie & Dhali as well

Rip the bandaid off, the elephant in the room needs to go. I believe they are waiting for the trade talks to ramp up prior to the draft to execute a trade. They may already have the makings of a deal in place but are playing chicken with each other to try and squeeze some more juice. Who was it who said it, about how long it takes to make a trade? The discussion can drag out to months and years.
