How do you do it UW, two quality posts (one of them a novella) while I was double checking stats to write five sentences taking Mëds comment apart.

Anyway I agree, there won’t be much “regression to the mean” and we’re likeliest to see movement in the standings based on trades and injuries - I love to watch the team win but for this year I hope we can get Sherwood and Kane moved asap, Demko gets another month or two off and a couple other injuries keep us in the top/bottom five.

Buium Interview
Any good Hanukkah gifts?
A: Not yet, no. We have a couple Jewish guys on the team, Sass [Max Sasson], Kaner [Evander Kane]. I guess he’s Jewish, I didn’t know that. I think Woody said he’s half Jewish, so we’ve got a couple Jewish guys on the team, which is pretty cool.
Wtf :wow:

Mëds wrote: Wed Dec 17, 2025 10:12 am Shooting percentages like ours (on more than a few of our wins this season) are not sustainable. Regression to the mean is why we are in last place right now. Demko might stand on his head, hell, he could win the Vézina this year, but he can’t compete for the Rocket Richard, and unless he’s chasing both of those pieces of hardware the Canucks aren’t climbing out of the basement.
I don't understand this post at all. The Canucks have the 11th worst shooting percentage in the league. Of course the percentage in 3 goal 15 shot games is not sustainable, but no one expects it would be. Stats don't regress to the mean in a single unit (game). And they certainly have when looking at 33 games or however many they've played. But of course there are always games better than the average. That's how it works.

And while this shooting percentage is poor, the save percentage is worse. 8th worst in the league. (Demko's numbers would have the Canucks at 6th best in the league.... He's played in just shy of 40% of the games, a few time not looking all that comfortable).
I was speaking about this game and that thinking there are more of these that will pull soothe cellar on the back of unbelievable high shooting percentage and All-World Demko, is unlikely.

Maybe I’m just presuming without digging into the stats, but it feels like a number of our wins this year have seen similar shooting percentage to last night. The mean is what we’ve had in other games. This team doesn’t have many guys who are true scoring threats.

Look at Sherwood, his shooting percentage in the early going was laughable unsustainable, and the Canucks benefited from it with a couple of W’s. He regressed below the his career average for a bit and dried up…..

My point is that this team is probably right where we should be when you take into account the roster and the shot selection that is either a bad gameplay or poor execution of the plan.

I don't know about the stats, but I know a turtle when I see one, and the Canucks have definitely retreated behind their shell.

That was a terrible interview.

In other news, following up on the Bains demotion. I find it interesting how mgmt opted to drop Bains yesterday when a) the club is in the midst of a long eastern road trip, b) they only have one extra forward available (Raty) with Boeser seemingly questionable and c) plenty of room under the cap to keep Bains up.

Is Petey close to returning? Is another deal on the horizon? Or is Allvin simply trying to play the cap savings game again now that they’re outta the Red with LTIR?

I feel like this Footer turtle is a bit more aesthetically pleasing (if you can describe it that way) and aggravating to play against than the old Travisty clusterfuck turtle.

Maybe that's just me.

The Footer turtle seems to actually prioritize getting the puck rather than just getting the puck out.

It's funny. .... we ...... us Canuck fans spend more time bitching about JT Miller, Quitt Hughes and "Scooterboy". Meanwhil there have been some actual parasites, like human scum put the Canucks sweater on. Not that we should pile on. These assholes made their own bed.

Jake Virtanen
Ryan Kesler
Willie Mitchell
Reid Boucher

I know i'm missing someone from the vile list but we all need a bit of perspective.
