Just find Twitter a cesspool of the worst kind of humans. Guess I'll wait for 5 minutes of Squire Barnes to get my news![]()
Well, every player that goes #1 overall is going to a losing team absent a trade or very unlikely lottery results.Curmudgeon wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 5:07 pm Taylor Hall's on his 4th team. Do winning teams not want him?

Hearing that the Islanders are finalizing a deal with UFA netminder Cory Schneider. There's the obvious connection there between Schneider and Isles GM Lou Lamoriello. Happy to see Schneider, 34, get a chance to continue his career. One of the good guys in the game.

He's 25, took him a while to get going but what a breakout year. Finishes a shortened season a PLUS 40!Ryan S. Clark@ryan_s_clark
Joe Sakic says the club agreed to a three-year deal with Ryan Graves last night.
AAV is $3.16 million,
Holy shit! Madden and a 2nd round pick turns out to be a steep price to pay for just 17 games and a peeky-boo in the POs. Might have been different without the Covid mess.Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Mon Oct 12, 2020 11:05 am Toffoli to Montreal at 4.25 x4.

We probably don’t even have the money to bring back Fantenberg![]()
Clearly the Aquilinis have taken the cheque book away. Where was this restraint in previous years when all the damage was done. I like Elmer’s savvy drafting the kids but we need someone running the purse strings here and have for a while.
Buffalo was 21st in GF/GP last year and 22nd in GA/GP. Taylor Hall has classically been a 25 goal guy on shitty teams with inconsistent supporting casts. He's never been that franchise game changer that Edmonton thought they were getting. He's a top-6 scoring winger with underrated playmaking ability. When he's on his game and if you gave him decent linemates he probably is a 30 goal scorer who adds 50 assists.UWSaint wrote: ↑Mon Oct 12, 2020 9:04 amWell, every player that goes #1 overall is going to a losing team absent a trade or very unlikely lottery results.Curmudgeon wrote: ↑Sun Oct 11, 2020 5:07 pm Taylor Hall's on his 4th team. New Jersey traded for Hall when they thought they had an elite goaltender and were among the best at suppressing goals. Not unreasonable to think that they thought of themselves as a soon-to-be-winning team.
Arizona was on the upswing based on the prior year's performance compared to what they had been doing. They had some young talent and they were in first place in the division when they acquired Hall.
And Buffalo? Well, I am not sure any "winning" teams are really in the market for top forwards. Cap is tight and 3 of the top 4 forward UFA's (in my view) remain unsigned -- Hoffman, Toffoli, and Dadanov. It might have nothing to do with Hall. Hall wanted to maximize the paycheck, likely. He might have had his tires kicked by winning teams, but once it was clear that he wasn't going to get a big paycheck with a long term deal in this environment, he chose what was likely the highest offer. $ 8 million is a lot of money for a player with Hall's track record.
Of course, Hall doesn't have a track record of bringing those teams to the next level for any sustained period. And a lot of that is that Hall has had trouble staying healthy and the other part is that Hall's not gifted at using his teammates. Players with his skill set and history can absolutely make a team better, but not a LOT better and it isn't $8 million better.
Unless the cap starts going up, the Canucks aren’t adding many players with large contracts for many years. As the bad deals come off the books all of their salaries will be taken by resigning RFAs, Petey, Hughes, Demko next year, Boeser the year after. Green better get used to incorporating ELC prospects into the line-up for the next decade. No way Benning is adding three defensemen this coming season. Maybe one top four and one depth guy, like Fantenberg. Some of these prospects will play, I wouldn’t rule our Rathbone or Woo even if they could use some AHL time. More likely Juolevi, Rafferty, Chatfield because they’ve been cooking in the AHL for a while. It just depends on how they play in camp. Rafferty should not be disqualified because he is balding, one-eyed, or yellow-toothed. Dental condition never stopper Tanev, one-eyedness never stopped Ohlund, baldness never stopped Sundin, and they were all good Canucks. Let’s judge the guy on his play once he gets a chance at the NHL level in camp.Micky wrote: ↑Mon Oct 12, 2020 11:15 amHoly shit!
