I still say Buffalo and the New York Islanders are your best suitors for Petey:

Pettersson for Barzal straight up

Pettersson for Norris ($8 million per year), Petereka (RFA) and Byram (RFA)

Trade Hronek for a centre, goodbye Boeser, Peterka replaces Boeser, Byram replaces Hronek. Quinn gets his buddy Norris.

I would trade Hogs and a mid pick for Schenn but not a first and a prospect.

- Marner definitely wants to go to Vegas and it sounds like there's mutual interest from his side. Obviously this would mean that they have to move money so hopefully the Canucks can get in on a cap dump or two.

- Canucks want to and are trying to trade Petey this summer. The Sedin twins referred to him as 'uncoachable' and management doesn't believe in him anymore. I can't say I blame them!

- Sounds like Ehlers is almost surely gone in Winnipeg - the Jets are not confident they'll convince him to stick around

I'll be interested to see if the team can trade Petey. We keep hearing how his value is way down, but for some reason every other player's value is up even if they didn't have a great year. I think if he does get traded it will be for a good return but we'll see soon enough.
Welcome back Diehard.

I have heard of the Marner to Vegas rumours.

I have a weird feeling Canucks will somehow get decent value back for Pete.

I think so too, a lot of teams will think all he needs is a change of scenery. As long as the Canucks trade him before his NMC kicks in, they should be okay. That being said, I can see them having to eat some of his contract to facilitate a salvageable trade.

Necas for Petey is still a real possibility

I think so too - no idea who they might want back in a Petey trade but Necas might make sense as part of it. They’d still need at least one but most likely two centres, so maybe they re-sign Suter as one of them and get another in trade.

The other guy I’m keeping my eyes on is Josh Norris even though he was just traded to Buffalo. They’d still other Nucks have wanted him for a while and the Hughes connections are obvious, plus he’s a centre. Probably have to send quite a bit to get Buffalo to move off a new acquisition but I’d expect Allvin to try.

The 11.6 freed up in cap would be huge, I'd like a good player back but gaining all that space would be a real feather in the Geezer's cap.

And sending the moody hipster kid on his way out of town would really brighten my day, I must admit.

Some pundits out there are predicting Peterka will get an offer sheet. Norris carries some heft in his contract - $8 million per year. I’m seeing a multi player trade like something around Norris, Peterka, Byram for Pettersson, Hoglander and Hronek.

SKYO is smiling for the Chef right now. It’s the best! Love it!!

Diehard, how would you rank the legitimacy of this? It’s hard to decipher which rumors are false and which are true, or should I say, are legit.

However, I can't see him and Pettersson getting along any better than Scooter and Miller did.
I dunno, I think those Prairie boyz are generally as good as u can get for character, team first kinda guys. They are the compete opposite from the alpha male a-holes who are full of themselves. I remember I watched a podcast where Friedman & Marek interviewed EP40 a couple years ago, this was before all the drama became public. They asked Petey who was a teammate who he really respected and a guy he would keep around; Petey responded with Brayden's bro, Luke Schenn. Yah, basically one of the few guys who was not afraid to call out Millzy when he was dogging it and giving up on plays. Petey also said the guy who doesn't get enough attention and credit on the team was the guy who just left, BoHo53.

I seem to recall they even asked Petey about his relationship with Millzy. I repeat, this was a couple years ago before everything became public. I think Petey wasn't sure of all the proper interpretations with the English language and called him "hotheaded". *LOL* Petey did go on and say Millzy is an emotional player and someone he respects and enjoys playing with, even though they were not best buds.

I do agree though, not sure I'd want to give up significant assets for an older player like B.Schenn. If he was UFA, I wouldn't mind kicking tires with him and make an offer. If we make a trade, would rather get a younger guy.

Anyways, here is the podcast for anyone interested:

Pettersson for Norris and the Sabres 9th OA pick 2025, draft a centre like McQueen, O’Brien or Martin at 9th OA and one of Carbonneau, Cootes, Bear, Reschny or Nesbitt at 15th Just do’er.

Landing on McQueen and Nesbitt would have us a couple of giants cooking in the system down the middle of the ice to go along with Raty. This small whimpy player business needs to stop.
