Canadiens sign defenseman Jeff Petry to a four-year contract extension
The deal has an average annual value of $6.25M and runs through the 2024-25 season
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/ca ... extension/

Could this effect the Chris Tanev negotiations? If there are any?

This happened yesterday...https://www.cbssports.com/nhl/news/peng ... -sceviour/
Penguins trade winger Patric Hornqvist to Panthers for Mike Matheson and Colton Sceviour

This comes out today:
Taj@taj1944
Elliotte on Matheson: When he hit Petterson and got that suspension, he was really affected by how it played out in social media. It bothered him, it hurt. Panthers believe it affected his play...I think they felt he backed off.

I may have been one of the culprits.

This is a very questionable deal considering it's going to be a flat cap for at least a couple more seasons, I think it will be three or four years, and Petry's age. Shouldn't impact Tanev's negotiations, Petry has a history of remaining healthy and produces more points while not being too much of a downgrade defensively now that Tanev's in decline.

Darren Dreger@DarrenDreger
Expect the Ottawa Senators to place Bobby Ryan on waivers for the purpose of a buyout.

Bobby Ryan has 2 years of $7.25M Cap Hit & 2 years of $5.5M Base + $2M Signing Bonus ($15M total) remaining on deal.Buy-out:
-Cap Hit: $3.58M (saves $3.7M), $3.58M (saves $3.7M), $1.83M, $1.83M
-Cost: $7.33M ($1.83M*4 ) + $4M SB = $11.33M, saves $3.67M
Is Pierre Dorion showing some bravado?

Interesting move and now they have to spend $18 million to just hit the cap floor. JP Barry better get his ass in gear and do his bloody job!

Staal can still play a bit and has one year left and the cash owed is 3.2 million with a 5.7 million hit. I doubt the Wings would take the Air Thief who has two years left and 5 million in cash owed to him with a 6 million dollar hit for less than a 1st or equivalent. If they really liked Demko maybe that would be enough to get Eriksson out of town but I think they would want more.

Hargraves is chill. I’m about to light up a big stomper and walk down to the Arms and fetch my truck.
