I think he's wrong. There is no indication that ownership and management are at odds. We had rumour that he was a meddling owner under Gillis but no real proof. We had rumour that he told Nonis to make a trade that he refused to make and that cost Nonis, in part, his job.

While I do think there may be some truth to the notion he vetoed some of what MG wanted to do, may even have been in on the Torts hiring, I also think he has been pretty hands off with Linden and Benning.

I think all three of them are on the same page. No full blown deliberate tank for picks. Every year the goal has to be make the playoffs. So I don't see a conflict. I think if Benning decides to sell he has the green light, the choice will be left up to him.

Leaf ownership did this for years. This is the first time in the 30 years I've been following them that Shanahan stood up and said they need and will do a proper rebuild. In just a year they've made huge strides. Their prospect pool is more than just 2 guys, it's got terrific depth. The Canucks need to blow-it-up now. It's just a massive waste of time right now.
And yes, the "Whaa Whaa We're Vancouver we're getting screwed" is getting old.

Trade Talk: leaves could target Tavares down the line

Patience, leaves fans

All the talk leading up to the Trade Deadline in Toronto has centred around the Maple leaves' chances of landing pending unrestricted free agent Steven Stamkos.

But for a number of reasons, mainly that Stamkos likely isn't willing to go through another rebuild during his prime years, and signing Stamkos would put a wrench in Brendan Shanahan's plans for a proper rebuild, Larry Brooks of the New York Post doesn't see Stamkos landing in Toronto.

But that doesn't mean the leaves won't soon be without a superstar free agent, it's just going to take a little more patience.

Brooks speculates New York Islanders star John Tavares, who could be frustrated with the situation in Brooklyn, could sign with the leaves in 2018 when his contract is up. It's still a ways away and a lot can change, but the Mississauga native would be as big a coup to leaves fans as Stamkos.
