The only plausible reason management could use to pick for positional need is the fact that there is next to zero centre depth in the prospect pipeline. Like... Ty Mueller... that's it. Raty is graduated IMO. It's not even about who could play in the NHL lineup next year; there's nobody who has a reasonable chance to make it to the big club three years from now.
Management could opt to roll the dice on some long-shots at centre in the later rounds, but then it's quantity over quality - more low-probability bets over one higher-probability bet. I don't have strong enough feelings to critique management if they go down either path. Besides, if management uses the pick in trade for a 2C, you're more likely looking for bottom-six reinforcements anyway so later picks used on centre prospects makes more sense anyway in that scenario.
I would be surprised if management didn't go BPA - it's not like the pipeline is bursting at the seams with prospects at any one position.

Wonder if they would put a package together to move up?

Is there anyone really worth moving up for in this draft?
(when taking into account the probably cost of moving up, especially into the top 5)

Aitcheson is projected to be a top 4 D man and is a fucking animal. He hits like a truck and is one of the toughest kids in the OHL.

It's too late now to change your image, you're not fooling anyone...

Exactly, no need to go BPA if a centre is what you desperately need.
There are always plenty of draft day deals on the table to trade up/down.

He's small, but I wouldn't mind taking a shot at the Reschny kid from Victoria. Maybe he can still grow a little.

Like when they picked Olaf instead of MT.

Yup. A big forward is exactly what they need

Exactly. If management is going to bomb the pick, I would rather they bombed with the top player on their draft board instead of the top player at the position they wanted - or the player the owner foisted upon management to pick.

So was Nathan Smith back in the day. Pretty much the same size. A “safe” “high floor” pick. How many NHL games he play???
Middle of the first round is no place to make “safe” picks. Would rather they take a chance on a “high ceiling” player than a “high floor” player.

This team needs some beef - don’t care how tall, but get the best player available that is 200+ lbs (muscle not fat).
