Raphael Lavoie just scored 20 pts in 12 QMHJL playoff games.

Also scored 5 goals in 5 games for Team Canada U18's.

I can see him come up a couple of spots in the ranking, currently 14.

Lavoie? Major consistency issues and he’s very old for this class, just barely missed last draft. He’s been dropping all year and now seems to be coming back a bit - again a very good prospect but there are better ones available at 10.

Boldy is going to be about 205-210 when he’s at his playing weight, he’s already a big guy and just turned 18 a couple of weeks ago. Also very versatile for a winger, can be either a playmaker or goal scorer depending on his line mates.

Krebs isn’t as big but plays like a house on fire, never stops, can play C or W, lots of skill and good skater.

For potential fallers, Dach can play C or W, really good playmaker. Zegras the same, more creative than Dach but not as big, better skater. All are better options than Lavoie right now.

Supposedly Jimbo is in Sweden right now watching the U18’s. He’s getting a good look at most of these guys, Dach (injured) and Zegras (also injured, though supposed to play tomorrow) aside.

I agree with Diehard about Lavoie. To inconsistent. Boldy is who I want, not lightning quick, but smart and skilled and big. Kind of exactly what we need on the wing. If Boldy is gone - Krebs or Soderstrom

Again this all sounds very similar to other big men/prospects notably Anthony Mantha (whom many around I believe would be a perfect fit on this team amiright?). And Lavoie only turned 18 in Sept.

Also Lavoie has similar points to Mantha in the QMHJL, just Lavoie was better for Team Canada and better in the playoffs - proving he's clutch in the postseason and gets better in crucial situations.

2013: 67gp - 50g, 39a, 89pts. Playoffs 9gp - 5g,7a, 12pts (drafted 20th overall)

Lavoie:
2018: 68gp - 30g, 33a, 63pts & U18's 5gp, 5g.
2019: 62gp - 32g, 41a, 73pts. Playoffs 12gp - 13g, 7a, 20pts (gonna get drafted)

Pierre Luc-Dubois Also for reference another big man of the QMJHL.
2015: 54gp - 10g,35a, 45pts & U18's 6gp, 1a.
2016: 63gp - 42g,57a, 99pts. Playoffs 12gp, 7g, 5a, 12pts. (drafted 3rd overall)

One wonders if the Habs would swap their 1st+2nd to move up from #15 to #10 to secure their frenchie big man.

Verdict- we collectively have no fucking clue what Benning will do and thats a good thing. These past 3 years he picked the least predicted player in these draft threads and Bennings off the map picks have turned out to be diamonds.

All anyone has to go on is whats reported in prospect articles and maybe watching a CHL playoff game or 2. Other than that were all basically just checking height, weight and which hand these kids shoot with. How the fuck can anyone here know anything really...

If there’s one thing I follow it’s the draft, it’s my favourite day of the year and I’m somewhat addicted to it - not saying I get it all correct as nobody does, but I don’t think too many were calling for Mittelstadt. There’s a ton of video and draft info out there and it’s not hard to find it.

2015 - at the Canucks pick I wanted Konecny. He would also have been a good pick but Boeser is better.

2016 - I wanted Dubois, who went #3. I then wanted either Tkachuk or Nylander. I still think Olli will be solid assuming he’s healthy, but those other two have been big contributors to their teams and Olli is still an unknown. Hopefully that changes next year.

2017 - I wanted Glass in the first, who still looks like a very good pick but Petey is a great one. I wanted Jaret Anderson Dolan in the 2nd and would still take him over Lind.

2018 - Nobody thought Hughes would be available but when he was he was definitely the pick. I though it would be either Dobson or Bouchard given the need for D, but was ecstatic when Hughes was there. I wanted Berggren or Tychonick in the 2nd but Woo has looked very good and it’s still too early to say who the best pick was.

I trust in Jimbo and Brackett - they’ve proven to be solid drafters. Nobody gets every pick right but they have more right than not, especially when you include later round guys like Madden, Rathbone, Gaudette, Jasek - they’ve all already done more than I thought they would do, and if they make the show it’s gravy.

For the record, this year I want the following:

10th - Krebs, Boldy, Dach, Soderstrom - I think at least 2 of these will be there. First off I want Krebs, but if not him I’m torn between Boldy and Soderstrom. I admit to being biased towards the good Canadian kids and wanting more of them, which is what puts a Krebs slightly ahead for me.

40th - Bjornfot, Rees, Pelletier, Poulin, Hoglander, Korczak, Tracey, Foote, Beecher - lots of good choices here

As I’ve said many times with this draft, from 3-10 it’s so damn close I’m not sure how it will go and I’m fine with whomever we take. I’ve never seen a draft this close up top, save Hughes and Kakko, who are ahead. There’s almost no difference between the Hawks at 3 and us at 10.

In the second round there’s lots of solid players with potential but all will need a couple of years before they are ready.
