What I saw earlier was the driver waving other vehicles (ICE?) through ahead of her. For an unknown reason, the agent tries to reach into the vehicle. She does not speed off, she slowly goes - but it's icy, so her wheels spin - the agent seems to lose footing. The other agent who fired from the front was never in danger. She was turning away from the agent.

The driver likely panicked a little when the agent reached in - and who wouldn't? ICE doesn't have a great record of dealing with people and de-escalating. They just shoot.

Bottom line in this incident is that the agent did not have to shoot.

Clearly refusing to co operate with instructions.

Agent at the door was dragged backwards as she reversed. She did this after he had one hand on the door and the other inside.

She shifter to drive turned her wheels as the front tires were spinning. As she shifts to drive, officer in front pulls his gun.

She accelerates into him.

Sorry Topper - I'm just not seeing that the response was anywhere near what the situation called for. If it's icy, I'm not going to stand in front of a moving car. Again, there was no reason for this to happen. What were the agents so afraid of in the first place?

At what point do people comply with officer's instructions instead of ignoring them, taking matters into their own hands to endanger others. Loss of life is tragic, but she could have prevented it. No one deserves to die, but that attitude of "they won't shoot", "they can't shoot" is wrong. That is why they carrying guns. Threaten them, they respond.

If the road wasn't icy, she would have had traction and run over the cop in front of her. He got lucky, she got fucked.

This was not peaceful protest. She used her weapon, they used theirs to defend themselves. Slow motion gives the clear time line, full speed gives the reaction time.

I'd give her a Darwin Award

Properly trained police wouldn't be putting themselves in unsafe situations like this. They would be corralling that car with their vehicles or disabling it, then force that person out of their vehicle at gunpoint. They wouldn't have the ability to drive anywhere

I would like to see the real-time version. Both links I clicked on were slow-motion.

As someone who routinely engages with law enforcement in my professional life, in a mix of various situations ranging from the benign drunk to the FML we need the cops right fucking now, I have seen police officers (RCMP) performing their duties in situations that are more escalated than this one appeared to be. I can say with near certainty that none of the officers I have been on scenes with would have pulled their gun and shot the driver.

Could the officer have been killed or seriously injured if the roads weren't icy? Quite possibly, even probably, yes.

In this case however, the officer had time to clear his weapon and shoot it into the vehicle from close range. He also had time to simply get the hell out of the way. Maybe it's a training thing? I'm not sure. Again, my only takes on this have been slow-motion, but when the engine revs and the vehicle appears to shift into drive, his instinct is go for gun rather than the self-preservation of just move aside.

I will cap that off by saying I have no context for why the officers were attempting to apprehend or question, or whatever-the-fuck they were wanting with the driver of that SUV. Context is key and informs decision making for the officers in cases like these.
