I disagree about Hitler. I'd say he was some sort of Christian Nationalist.

He was raised Catholic and never formally left the church. He had a lot of quarrels with the different Christian denominations and certainly did not conform to traditional Christian beliefs, but in a slightly tweaked version:

In public statements made during his rule, Hitler continued to speak positively about a Nazi vision of Christian German culture, and his belief in an Aryan Christ. Hitler added that Saint Paul, as a Jew, had falsified Jesus' message – a theme Hitler repeated in private conversations, including, in October 1941, when he made the decision to murder the Jews.

A Christian, of any kind, cannot deny the core tenants of the Bible or say that it was erroneous. Jesus was a Jew, to say otherwise and call the majority of the New Testament falsified, would indicate that he was anything but Christian. For you to then hang any sort of Christian label on him absolutely discredits a rational assessment.

Hitler was a German Nationalist who attempted to appropriate the major religion of the time in order to win favour among the electorate.

Not just Jesus as a Jew, but to reject Paul? Paul wrote between 7 and 13 of the epistles (there's some dispute); Luke the Evangelist was Paul's close friend and caretaker, likely wrote the Acts of the Apostles and the Gospel According to Luke.

Its sort of like saying, I'm a Christian but I reject most of the New Testament.

But there's more than that. I don't think Hitler ever said "I am a Christian." (I could be wrong about this, but I don't recall having seen that). That's not to say professing one's Christianity makes one a Christian (especially when denying core tenants of the religion), but the point is Hitler wasn't preaching a Christian world order, he was at most trying to synthesize Naziism and Christianity in his public comments (and the result of that synthesis would be naziism....). Goebbels diaries report Hitler was decidedly anti-Christian behind closed doors. (Though, to be objective, Goebbels was himself anti-Christian, so we should not discount the possibility that he was importing his own views onto Hitlers). Nevertheless, given the incoherence between Nazi ideology and Christian ideology, that makes sense. Naziism was an ideology of the strong over the weak; Christianity exalts the meek. Naziism preferred a single race over all others; Christianity transcends race and nation -- which is a teaching that departed from conventional Judaism and plays a central role in the New Testament (including parts written by Paul).

Naziism was imbued with pagan and occultist symbology. And while there's some ambiguity about Hitler's beliefs (some argue Christianity, which I think is not supported by the evidence; but I've seen serious arguments that he was an atheist, serious arguments that his "providence" was All Father/Odin, and serious arguments that Naziism itself is a religion), many in the Nazi hierarchy were quite clearly occultists and pagans (and the occult is not Christian, it is a heresy). You don't build a Christian nation with occultist generals.

The Nazi regime did not just "quarrel" with Christians; priests were arrested and executed. The protestant churches were forced into one central german evangelical church. To be sure, Nazis did not eradicate the church; instead they attempted to co-opt it, and had a fair amount of success. Because there were lots of bargains in the name of preservation to side with the powerful. And because lots of Germans were Nazis.

A head of state should never accept gifts from foreign governments. That is corruption.

Most of us are here after the wife got pissed off....

This might be an echo chamber because the same things are said over and over about certain topics, but honestly there's more diversity about social topics than most other places on the internet because we aren't here for this, so it isn't pre-siloed.

Its one of the things to love about sports. It crosses national boundaries, socio-economic class, race, etc., and brings disparate people together to celebrate a common thing. Cheering for a team satisfies the tribalist instinct, the games mimic war, but no one gets killed. Well, usually.

Define killed in a broad scope.

We are all dying a slow death as fans of the Canucks.
