Yeah, I've been reading that the local media has created a completely false narrative around Hughes. Apparently, Hughes is perfectly happy here, but pissed off with the media. It's just the reality of the market; the media is toxic. And they're doing the body language shit they did with Miller on Hughes now, they have obviously decided to run Hughes out of town.
You can't hate the Vancouver sports media enough.
I agree with you with the exception that with Miller it was more than body language... he had started bailing on his shifts similar to what we saw a game or two ago in New York...
With Hughes, I wonder if less is more....while he is dangling around the ice his teamates are getting stationary and plays are dying...

Which begs the question, is this a frustrated Hughes trying to do it all by himself, going rogue per say in his efforts to win or is it Hughes going rogue due to him being frustrated with his situation here? Like, emotionally he’s already left? It’s been a bit of a shit show here the last couple seasons, that must have some kind of bearing on your captain?

Some here are as bad as the media. Trying to read into a story that isn't there.
Hughes is trying too hard because he doesn't trust his teammates?
The only problem I see is a coach relying on him too much and playing him 30 minutes a game. Not a good long-term plan, in my opinion (assuming we're keeping him).

The Canucks need to figure out how to get at least one more elite level forward to make this work with having just Hughes as your only elite level player. Pettersson has been downgraded from elite level and I don’t see him getting back to that

Well, amongst the IFs were whether Pettersson could return to peak form (not looking good so far) and whether Demko could stay healthy enough to matter (ditto).
Another of my IFs was how quickly Foote could learn as a head coach. Overplaying Hughes, as mentioned, is not a good long-term solution. Also, the Canucks are 30th in the League on PK. I think of special teams as being an area where the coaching staff has more influence, though of course the aforementioned goaltending situation doesn't help.
I can't see why it would be difficult to persuade whomever needs persuading (FA, JR, or both) that if you're going to tank anyway, you might as well flip some assets for more darts at the drafting dartboard. Surely someone in marketing must have pointed out that it's easier to sell fans on a young team on the rise than an old core floundering.

Is your takeaway that it's more than these famous stalwarts, or that it is not
that much more ?

I'm saying elite level players, especially D, play big minutes and showed current and past comparables in example.

And the ability to play a lot of minutes at a high level is part of being a true #1 D.
I can't understate how important this is. It is replacing 4-6D minutes with elite minutes. Same skill at 27 minutes is nothing like that skill at 22 minutes.
People used to always hem and haw about 4, 5, and 6 spots on the roster and every year (until this season) it seems the club was focusing on trying to tweak these guys, but the best way to attack this problem is to make them far less relevant by having them on the ice less. The WCE and Peak Sedin era Canucks had pretty good defensive personnel from a depth perspective. But they never had the true #1, IMO -- a guy that could eat a ton of minutes, and was materially better at the position than 90% or more of the league and provided offense. It isn't completely necessary to have this player to win a Cup, but it helps a ton.
Its also why we should remain skeptical about those young teams with a lot of talent who don't have a player of this type in their line up. Bright futures, sure. Playoff bound this year? Maybe. But without that true #1, they have to build a ton of depth on the blueline to make it work, and it seems that this is not where these teams have their resources invested (or at least not yet matured).

Don Taylor and Rick Dhaliwal are diagnosing Quinn Hughes' body language right now.
Run him out of town!

The 'Goalie-go-round' continues as Tolopilo heads back to Belarus to see his new baby. Patera is called up to back up Lankinen. Demko, I'm assuming, is still a while out.
Also: Hoglander joined Canucks practice in LA sporting a non-contact jersey. Garland did not skate.

This is why Canucks captain can’t be the best player.
Horvat was a good captain. Could tolerate the media here.
Tolerating Vancouver media, and being a heart and soul/hustle guy is the formula here.
Like Lowry in Winterpeg. Need a captain that can set the fuckn tone.

So, when Hoglander plays game 1 this year, will that be 34 roster guys this year?
.. I am honestly asking as I have lost count….
