Were the Blews contenders? How about the Golden knights? Didnt the canucks beat one and come within a vagina hair of beating the other?

Doyle, van is a contender now. Before the playoffs they were as you say but...new information has come to light man. Snap out of it!

Oh ahd they also jewed the best 2 way dman from the team that beat them! Genius!

Two elite D men, 4 core forwards and a promise young goalie. They need to drain the swamp over the next two years and fill the roster out with quality youngsters and good depth.
Yup, gotta agree, so glad Jimbro didn't sign any long-term contracts or give up any more draft-picks. With this covid shit show going on it's the perfect
time to sit tight and let the shitty contracts expire.
We'll burn that bridge when we get to it

:wow:

Jake is pretty close to a waiver wire level player while the other 2 were top line wingers on a contender. Not sure about your reasoning on that one

Oh and before Doyle rocks up and whips his depends undergarment at me over calling the canucks a contender...when you KO the champs then follow it up by pushing the top seed in your conference to 7 you are now a contender
I’m not one to agree with WeeTodd on anything, but considering their ages, Virtanen @ $2.55 x 2 for 36 points is better than Toffoli @ $4M x 4 for 44 points. Factor in their respective average TOI, and the fact that one of the them consistently played with top-6 line mates and the other saw a revolving door of 3rd and 4th line time with splashed of top 6 exposure.....

Jake has more to give. Toffoli doesn’t.

Like Benning said, Jake is the type of player who you trade away too soon and he becomes the 25 goal power forward you wanted him to be for someone else.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

Mëds the reason he wasnt suiting up on the top line wing is because he hasnt earned that seat. Not even close. Hes been a floater who avoids engagement.

If he had been playing at a first line level I'm fairly sure the expert NHL coaching staff currently employed by the Canucks would have given the kid a crack.

What? A 18G man a waiver wire player? He would have got 20 easy if Covid didn't shut things down. There's a reason why mgmt qualified him, u can't let that kind of asset walk away for nothing.

There is no denying the guy has talent. His hockey sense, commitment and professionalism is in question.

Sure he pumped in some reg season goals but he sucked in the big games Todd. We were all ready for beast mode but all we got was Loui Eriksson Jr

Ouch! Sure he had a crappy playoffs, but... this? :D

I'm glad he's back, and at a decent rate. It's up to him if he wants to be a placeholder or part of the future.

Not sure that's fair to LE, he does the little things well accordingly to coach... I have yet to see that from Jake, unless he means to constantly shoot the puck high & wide, then loaf back to his zone only to struggle to get the puck out on the boards then changes causes he's pooped.

The Brown Wizard wrote: Fri Oct 23, 2020 6:37 am Hes hammering on about the significance of the bottom pairing depth but when we challenge him on Stetcher being so shitty he falls back on how little TS had to do with the success/failings of the team.
They will need someone from the bottom pairing to step up when there's injuries or extended brain farts. Squeegee face Troy could do that.
Of coarse that's a worry especially if the season gets condensed. I think Benn is an inspirational team-mate and a decent sort but for logging
the big minutes, (or any minutes), now is a stretch. Olli Juolevi and Jack Rathbone are candidates for (A) spot. I think Rafferty is a call-up guy only.

In re to Jake and his renewed gig, we need to see a serious, focussed, man who's willing to put 100% effort in every game. Someone who will pay better attention to simple things like what way will my shot go if it is a bit off target and misses the net?
Have I over stayed my projected shift time cause of my poor positioning.
Jake will do just fine if he listens to the plenitude of wisdom and knowledge on the team (the players not Green) and is willing to keep learning
the details in taking the next step. Jake has to play it straight.......

Curmudgeon wrote: Thu Oct 22, 2020 3:29 pm Virtanen's deal is pretty fair for both parties. If Benning can sign a decent veteran RHD on a short term deal I'd say he's had a very good off season.
Even a decent LHD. Shift Benn over to the right side. Maybe Brogan Pilisken can actually play. You definitely don’t want to see two of Olli, Rafferty, Brisebois, Sautner, Chatfield in the lineup for more than a game or two . If these guys were any good they would have made a push to make the team last year.
Benn certainly had more success and probably played the best hockey of his career on the right side in Montreal, obviously the Canucks signed him based on that, so maybe Green relents and plays him there. He'll have to do that with Schmidt, might as well with Benn too.

I hold out hope for Juolevi and ultimately Woo, maybe Rafferty but he's a long shot IMO, the other guys not so much since they haven't really pushed as you say. Rathbone I'm high on. Maybe target a versatile guy who can play both sides?

Assuming LTIR for Ferland, a safe bet at this stage, there could still be room to squeeze in a Leivo and a Fantenburg, or their equivalent. I would let the prospective depth guys still looking for work to sweat it out a little longer and drive a really hard bargain if I were making the big Benning bucks.
I'd pass on both of those guys and combine what they'd offer them for one defenseman.

Hargraves has thrown bouquets at Elmer many times since 2017. Before that I threw boulders (mostly deserved) at him for the series of blunders he made during the early part of his tenure. Not sure why I need to constantly repeat this.
