I was thinking maybe they did it to keep the cap hit down.

Maybe buy out the last year or two if Schenn loses his game?

(and isn't LTIRed by then)
Yeah, but for every Pronger/Horton there's an Ericksson or a Louongo. Hopefully Schenn takes the high road, and sticks the Blues with his whole cap hit. CapFriendly says he only makes $4 in the last year. That'll boost the ol buyout cap hit.

Yeah I noticed, but still it might be the way to go, salary cap may be over $100M by then..

Just saw that Ottawa is going to retire Chris Phillips jersey. That's kind of like putting Stan Smyl's number into the rafters. Sad.

He was probably one of the most un-merited No. 1's in history (and they picked arguably one of the worst in Daigle).

Kind of reminds me of the Oilers drafting with all of their top picks. Daigle, Bonk, Phillips... terrible. Spezza was good, but they probably want a mulligan on greedy Alexei Ca$hin. If it weren't for a 6th round pick named Alfredsson...

You don’t love the Steamer!?!? That’s like sacrilege. Stan the Man is golden in this city for those who remember.

I remember Stan putting a steaming biscuit into Vernon's glove in the '89 playoffs.

ROH, yes. Rafters, Nein!

Bob Nystrom was considered the leagues toughest junk yard dawg for a bit in the NHL. In the cup finals of ‘82 against the Isles ole 5’-9” Stan Smyl bloodied Nystrom’s nose in a fight on Long Island at a time when everyone was afraid of Nystrom. IMO that alone puts Steamer in the rafters. That Canuck team did not get pushed around especially by the champion Islanders who were considered the toughest team in the NHL at the time. There hasn’t been a tougher, gutsier Canucks team since. Too Bad Neale went and fucked it up after that

Steamer was tough as nails. But not in the rafters, Dude.

We had some serious playoff toughness.

'82 team also had Curt Fraser, Ron Delorme and Tiger Williams!

'94 team had Gerald Diduck, Shawn Antoski, Tim Hunter, Sergio Momesso and Gino Odjick!

2011 team had... sigh.

94 canucks team was just as if not tougher and with more heart and soul.

As much as I appreciate playoff toughness and grit...

None of those listed "gutsy" players were playoff winners.

2011 achieved just as much as 1994, 1982 team did.

The only way steamer belongs in the rafters is from a rope. It would be no different than putting Burrows up there. Sure, heart and soul guy every team needs, but not Jersey retirement worthy. Vancouver has had only 3 of those. One is up there, two more are going up there in a few months.

The flying elbow was more specifically Bure standing up for himself after Churla tried to goon him up (and no call!) earlier on that shift...

Tampa has a pretty good young winger they replaced Miller with in Matthew Joseph.

Malkin out long term with a lower body injury.
