I appreciate Hughes' camp getting this word out. It's conceivable that Hughes believes in this roster more than management. Hell, if Hughes walks, it may be due to management unwittingly convincing him that the team is a sinking ship vice any desire on his part.
I heard a comment somewhere that intimated that management's 'leaked' memo to the league via Friedman was a shot across the bow at the veterans (Kane springs to mind) after the debacle against Calgary - hence Foote making a point of noting how the vets played 'really well'. "Shape up, or we start shipping people out," it seems. We'll see if the boys can keep it up.

I try not to listen to the Canucks media. Most of them treat the team that feeds them like shit.

Hughes body language is easier to read than the giant billboards you see on highway shoulders while cutting through reserves on the way to Toppers house.

Seravalli's take on Hughes situation, from Hockey Writers:
"According to Seravalli the people closest to Hughes repeat the same line: Quinn has told them, directly and without ceremony, that he is “100% committed” to the Canucks. If he has doubts, he isn’t voicing them in the circles that usually leak those sorts of things. There’s no back-channel smoke, no whispered exit plan."
"Hughes believes in what he started. It looks as if he’s going to stay and see it through."
"The complication, Seravalli points out, comes not from the player but from the team’s own posture. Jim Rutherford’s recent comments, which sounded more open-ended than anyone expected, left fans wondering whether the organization itself is uncertain about its direction. In those moments, speculation fills the gaps. In Vancouver, where hockey talk flows like rain, that speculation turns into a narrative before anyone realizes it."
"Hughes believes the Canucks can be better than what they’ve shown. He thinks the worst moments of this season were due to problematic circumstances rather than a flawed structure. And he believes he has a responsibility (and the ability) to help turn it around."
"Hughes is not a player looking for the exit......For Hughes, it’s this: the door isn’t closing. His story in Vancouver isn’t finished. And he still wants to be the one who leads in the writing of the next chapter."
So everybody happy now? July 1st can't come quick enough. Of course if we start trading away players like Sherwood and Garland things may change. Lets face it, neither of them will bring us back what we need.
Michael Buble on Frank Seravalli:
"If Frank Seravalli is a Canucks insider, then the 40 year old virgin was a porn star."

Rumours, at the time, were that Brock and JT were close and Quinn and JT were as well.
Garland named Hughes as his son’s Godfather. There’s clearly a tight relationship there.
JT out. Huggie is still committed. Speaks volumes about 43.
If they trade Garland right after extending him, that might be something else entirely for Hughes and the next chapter.

No Garland didn't name his son after Quinn. He named him after some tv character called Quinn. Or some such thing.
We have this discussion it seems almost every year. Is it better to trade your UFAs and get whatever you can or is their value for the club worth more? I mean if we can get a 4th or higher for Kane go for it. Kemp we just got him so I don't see him going anywhere until closer to the TDD. Bluegar has been hurt almost all season so his value is nil. Same with Forbert. So trading those guys does nothing for the future really nor will it make us better today. The only FA worth anything is Sherwood and if they are thinking of trading him then clearly they have no interest in extending him. He could bring back a second or a decent prospect but not a grade A prospect. I see this as a lot of noise. I mean really there is no value. If you are not serious about rebuilding then just trading those pieces brings us nothing.
I mean I am all for getting what we can and not letting them walk for nothing but it will not move the needle in the direction we want.
