EV's remind me of when I was in Jamaica and word came out that the Police couldn't afford fuel for their cars and most had less than 1/4 tank.
There is a time and a place for them, but realize that is limited.
Hmmm, Canadian electrical generating capacity, transmission and much of the retail level sales is government owned, yet someone, is concerned about replacing fuel taxes.

When I switched from my old Volvo V50 to a Mitsubishi Outlander my fuel costs were halved, despite the Outlander being 500 kg heavier.
1 liter of 95 octane gas costs SEK 15.55
1 kWh of electricity costs roughly SEK 2
The car needs roughly 0.9 litres of gas or 2 kWh to drive 10km.
The cost for running it on gas is thus SEK 14 for 10 km or CAD 2 (USD 1.40)
The cost for running on electricity is SEK 4 or CAD 0.57 (USD 0.40)
So, the cost of running it on electricity is less than 30% of the cost of running it on gas, but since it's a hybrid, I can only get 40 km of electric from it when it's fully charged. I mean, sure, it charges when going downhill or breaking as well, so I do get a few bonus km out of it, but on the other hand, I don't get the full 40 km in the winter.
Either way, most days I drive less than 20 km, so it's all electric, and when I do need to go longer the gas engine kicks in.
My mix of driving saves my roughly 50% on fuel costs, so I'm a very happy car owner. It'd be 70% savings if I could go fully electric.
Also, the vehicle tax in Sweden is only SEK 360 (USD 36) per year for hybrids and EV, whereas owners of fossil cars can pay up to SEK 3000 (USD 300), depending on emissions.
Haven't decided yet if my next car will also be a hybrid or if I'm going to go for fully electric.
If fully electric I would want it to get at least 600 km out of a full charge, and those that can do that today are very expensive, so I need the price to come down a bit for it to make sense. One daughter lives 500 km away, as does my sister, and my other daughter lives 400 km away.
In the winter you never get the full amount they claim, so I'd like to have a 20 percent margine so I can go without having to stop on the way.

EV's are ok for city driving, but I would never get out here in the sticks, however, a hybrid would probably work. For me, I just prefer gas powered vehicles.

Agreed - Electric would be a pain in the ass out here as well. Lack of charging stations, long distances etc. I've had 2 Priuses, and they worked great - for times when the Suburban wasn't needed. After a deer killed the last one, I'm back to gas with an Outlander. Decent milage, more space.

I know a guy who bought a Ford EV truck. He can get to red deer (140km) in winter but not home without sitting at a fast charger for an hour +. Talk about useless
