Agree 100% - just saying that he (likely) didn't have a say in Lankien getting that contract, which forced Silovs out of town.

10-4...and agreed.
If he was doing his job and is as good at it as claimed "out there" I would hope he did just the opposite.

Makes you wonder how much his voice mattered to Baldy and Old Fart - I would like to think Clark would know better.

Yeah, I don't mind Finnish goalies, Björklöven has two of them, but I really had high hopes for Silovs and was shocked when he got dumped.
I know that Demko was injured and all, but I still think it would have been better to stick with Silovs than paying a lot more for Länkinen.

Lankinen was the wrong call without going into the rebuild last year.Hockey Widow wrote: ↑Fri Jul 10, 2026 9:54 am If we just decided on a rebuild a year earlier.....what ifs
The reason is that the Canucks knew they weren’t a playoff team with Lankinen as a starter playing about as well as he could. And with a downgrade in offense (no Miller), any chance of competing was based on two things: EP40 playing well and better goaltending. Better goaltending had a zero percent chance of coming from the guy who did his best and couldn’t do enough. It required a healthy Demko or a prospect who had been groomed for years leveling up. To be sure the chance of that happening wasn’t great, but there was zero chance that an injured Demko and a healthy Lankinen meant playoffs. At the time Lankinen was signed.

Re: Past Canuck Players
Phil Di Giuseppe has signed for Björklöven!
Since we won the second tier league last season and got promoted to the SHL I guess we're now shopping from another shelf!

Good to see Philly Delight making the most of his career while he can play. Hope he moves the needle in Björklöven like he never did in Vancouver.

Re: Past Canuck Players
He has a career 0.60 ppg in the AHL, which seems decent enough and 302 NHL games under his belt.
The SHL and AHL are roughly on par, but with quite different styles of hockey. More focus on skill in the SHL, more grit and physicality in the AHL, but overall they're roughly the same level of hockey. So I think he'll be a good addition to our team. A borderline NHL player is a good asset for any team, whether in the AHL or SHL. As long as he is willing to put in the work.
