Unless they sit his 4.25 sheets on the bench and let Merilainen run with it (these new fucking guys acquisition after all)...

...again....we are presuming they are going to let him operate at sub .800 save %....

...not so sure about that either.

But sure...yeah..Lankinen was a genius signing.

(...I get the facetious part RG.....just yanking your chain as well as commenting that I, for one, do not believe for a minute that this group has the appetite to watch this for the required time to properly fix this shit......as I posted last year more than once....
the Canucks are in the midst of regarding the realities of a diminishing next Gen fan base....the A's may be lousy at ownership (allegedly) but big business and making money they are not....

Fantastic topic, Cuz.

Statiscally, the data puts the goaltending re-signings, especially Lanker's as the worst, most crippling and unnecessary long-term contracts considering the current state of the team.

But in fact, it could actually be genius as Lanky's continuing shit-the-bed performances is exactly what a rebuilding team needs and keeps the owner's delusions in check.

While I can understand the 'Tankists' love them some Lankinen (I mean, the guy is stopping 2 out of 3 pucks this year in every game he has played - that SCREAMS rebuild!), I gotta question what does that do for the confidence/culture of this team. Its such a thin line to walk between learning systems and rebuilding culture to having that one guy who keeps losing you games because he could not stop a beachball from center ice. I have been on teams where there is an obvious weaker than the lowest of the average, and it does not make for a good dressing room. And I can safely say, we have all seen the effects of a bad dressing room..

It would be better to have a rookie struggle and lose while learning, than a supposed veteran backup who just sucks donkey balls.
Lank the Tank gotta go. They gotta figure that out.

That, and get someone who actually brings something to the table over Bains. Fuck, is he useless too.

Only thing I can figure over not playing Raty, is that Bains is bringing an intangible.. but what that is, I have no Idea.

And for clarification, Bains is useless in the role he has been given here. He is an AHL scorer, top line AHL guy, who is asked to play 4th line with the big club. His game doesn't translate for that. (His game doesn't translate for top 6 NHL either - that's been tried enough). The role he is asked to play is that of a 4th line grinder. He is too slow, doesn't track the game fast enough on D, doesn't bring the energy with hits or fights or forechecks.. offense goes to die on his stick.. He does nothing for everything you ask your bottom 6 energy guys to do.

Raty at least wins face offs.

It was pretty ironic that when Leevu lost the blade they were tied 1-1 and holding their own... relatively speaking...then in pops the picket fence and with him comes the loss.

Who registered the loss today?

(Hint - according to the score Tanky is on record with the loss lol)

The kid is obviously the best option for right now. Time to send KL upstairs for a few and bring up the dude with the eyes too far apart

Great topic Cuz, but I can't really keep it to five.

My list:

the Demko contract (the sheer idiocy)

the Miller/Horvat scenario

the Boeser contract

Peter's deal

Podkolzin for a fourth

the Lankinen contract

the Elias Lindholm acquisition

The intangible Bains is bringing is as a cult hero to a segment of the fan base. It only makes sense as a marketing gimmick, and that's pathetic.

As you said, he checks zero boxes as a fourth line winger. Zero.

I thought you were a big proponent of DEI, Megs?

Frank: "Hey, JR. There's a big South Asian fanbase we want to market to. We should do something in the area of Diwali, something for those fans to cheer for."

JR: "Ok, boss. I'll see what I can do." (Proceeds to get his Swedish henchman to sign and promote a cult hero from the Whalley area...)

1. The ones that seemed most idiotic to me was signing Lankinen and trading Silovs.
2. Then the biggest mistake was Miller over Horvat.
3. Not re-signing Cole which killed their PK.
They still suck on the PK and why they should trade for Edvinsson now.
Shenn is their only half decent PK defencemen, and he is slowing down.
Maybe D-Petey grows into the role?

So many mistakes with the past two regimes. The list is endless.

But this coach we have now! Wanna love the guy but he is rewarding Bains for what he did for him in Abbotsford. We need to send him down and hope someone claim him.

Raty needs to play.

I think I heard Manny say that Bains is showing the guys what type of hockey Manny expects and at practice he leads the charge in drills. So he has familiarity with Manny and that has bought him his ticket. But sooner or later Manny has to cut the cord.
The only HW the Canucks need
